The Client Meeting
-
"Where's Sophie?" Nate asked the three people hanging out in his living room. Hardison was at least getting ready for their next job, but Eliot and Parker really weren't doing anything. Nate just shook his head, though, and didn't say anything. He had gotten used to them and he had also gotten used to the fact that he couldn't get them to leave.
"She left," Eliot answered before Parker. Parker stuck her tongue out at Eliot before she subsided.
"She left?" Nate asked, coming to a halt and blinking at them in surprise. "We have a client meeting in five minutes and I need her to be here."
"Well, she's not here." Eliot shrugged, not seeing what the big deal was.
"I need her to help put the client at ease; you see, I've found that it often goes smoother when I have someone with me to help soothe the client," Nate explained, even though Eliot really didn't look very interested.
"You'll have to make do without, I suppose," Eliot absently said and Nate wondered exactly why the hitter was in his apartment in the first place. He didn't seem interested in anything that the team was doing, but he didn't look like he was moving from his spot on the couch.
"I can go with you," Parker cheerfully suggested.
"Er," Nate trailed off as his mind warred with him over the situation in front of him. On the one hand, he really did like to have someone with him, but on the other, it was Parker.
"You said that you wanted someone with you and I'm not doing anything," Parker cheerily pointed out. "Besides, I've always wondered just what you guys did during client meetings."
"We just sit and talk with the client, Parker," Nate replied. "I ask the main questions and you'd be there just to comfort the client."
Parker squealed as she jumped off of the couch and headed out the door. "This is going to be so much fun!"
"It's a bad idea," Eliot interjected as Nate moved towards the door.
"What?" Nate glanced back at the hitter.
"It's Parker," Eliot stressed, as though it explained everything and, thinking it over, it did.
Nate wondered if he should call Parker off, but he really did want someone there and he had already agreed to take Parker along, even if he never directly said so. She would be crushed if he said no now and Nate had a hard time dealing with crying women. Nate sighed, shrugged, and walked towards the door. "How bad could it be?"
