Body Heat

It was freezing outside. His teeth were sending SOS messages in Morse code and he couldn't stop shivering. H e could barely feel any of his body parts anymore. It was as though his whole nervous system had gone haywire. It was basically the worst situation he had ever been in since he started the clue hunt.

'Just my luck,' he thought bitterly, 'that I have to spend time inside this stupid cave that is inaccessible to all ninjas with her, the posh Prada princess that just happens to have a whole arsenal of weapons on her at all times.'

Yes, he was stuck in a cave with Natalie Kabra. If fate were a person, Dan was sure that they'd be laughing hysterically at them. Of course, this whole catastrophe just had to occur after he had told her that she was the last person on Earth that he would even consider being friends with. Oh, how the cruel irony of it all practically made him cry.

It didn't help matters when the spoilt brat had hogged all the blankets as well as plonked her whining self right next to the small fire, their only source of heat. Not to mention the fact that she slept like a drunken sailor with emphysema. Now that made him grin like a Cheshire cat. All the money in the world couldn't do much for her annoying sleeping habits which also included kicking the person closest to her, i.e. Dan as well as a skill of rotating 360 degrees as she slept, an ability that even he had to admit was pretty amazing. Sure, it was throughly irritating but somehow he could not help but feel that it all added to her appeal somehow. It made her seem more …human.

The fact that she constantly slept with an armament in her hand was also a cause of concern for Dan. He swore that her grip on her firearm never loosened at all. There was no way he could get even the smallest sliver of warmth without endangering his life. But Dan knew that he would be dead anyway if he didn't manage to get any calefaction at all as they waited for someone to rescue them.

He steeled his nerves and gathered up his courage, all the while reminding himself that heat is pivotal in matters of survival, a critical ingredient to ensure his wellbeing. He needed the warmth to survive. He didn't care if she was going to use her dart gun on him as per all her threats.

He would snuggle up to her anyway.

A/N: This was actually an idea I had for my drabble collection, You and I after I received a request for Dan and Natalie. However, for some reason I really liked this idea so I decided to expand it into a one-shot. Personally, this pairing is neutral ground for me. I don't mind it but I'm not very opposed to it either. I just don't think that it's necessary to pair up two pairs of siblings in one story which is why I omitted others from this one-shot. As aforementioned, this is not my favourite couple ever so I hope I have done it justice. I also hope you all enjoyed it!
