Swimming

One Shot

Dedication: I dedicate this short ficlette to Shaina. No, this does not mean I will buy you coffee. You have to get it on your own.

It was a sweltering hot day in Halloween Land. Everything had a soft golden tinge and all the building looked slightly hazy in the afternoon sunlight. Sally was bicycling through the town. Her long red hair streamed out behind her and her pale-blue skin was a slightly pink because she couldn't find the sun-block. Sally passed the fountain and continued up to Skellington Manor.

Sally climbed the steps and opened the door without even bothering to knock or ring the doorbell. She stepped into refreshingly dark and cool interior of the mansion. "Jack, you home?" she called out to the silent house.

"Yeah. I'm up in my room," came the reply from somewhere upstairs. Sally climbed the narrow staircase and stopped at the door. She opened it a crack and stuck her pale face in.

"Want to go swimming?" she said with a smile.

"Not really. I don't like to go swimming." Jack was sprawled over his bed, an open book in front of him. He blinked his empty eye sockets.

"Oh come on, everybody loves to go swimming! It'll be fun." Sally implored. She tried everything you could think of to get him to come along. She pouted, she pleaded, she even begged. Finally, Jack agreed to come when he found out it would be just the two of them. He pedaled the bike and she rode on the handlebars. Soon they arrived at the lake.

"Last one in is a rotten egg!" cried Sally. She pulled off her shirt and shorts to reveal a black and white bikini. Dark stitches stretched across her body. She dived into the greenish lake. Her head popped out of the water. "Aren't you coming in?"

"Umm, yeah, about that. There's a reason I wear long sleeves and pants all the time..." Jack mumbled something else.

"Sorry, didn't quite catch that last part," Sally said with a smirk.

Jack's cheekbones flushed a pale peach. "Well, uh, have you ever broken a bone? If you have, you know that when it's healed, it's a little thicker then the rest. Being a skeleton and all, you can see exactly where I have broken bones." He said all this rather quickly. When he finished, he embarrassedly cast his sockets down. Sally started laughing.

"That's it? That's the only reason you've never gone swimming? Because you're afraid someone will make fun of your lumpy bones?" By now she was laughing so hard she couldn't speak. She could hardly keep her head out of the murky water.

"Yes!" Jack said angrily, "Stop laughing! It's not that funny."

"Yes-yes it is. Come on, look at me. I'm covered in stitches, but I still go swimming. What about Mummy Boy? His skin is extremely wrinkled, but he still unwraps his bandages to go swimming. Everyone in this town is imperfect. It can't be that bad."

"I guess you're right." Then Jack striped down to his swimsuit and dove in.

"One last question Jack. Where do you find swimsuits thin enough to stay on you?"

Author's Notes: As I am having a major case of writers block with my other story so I'm just writing a whole bunch of one shots. This was a random idea I came up with. Hope you somewhat enjoyed it. Please R&R!
