The Other Crow

Author's Note: Hello, this is a new story of one of the crows who also wanted to be human like Nawat. It is my second story. My first one was quite lousy; don't go and look:)

Disclaimer: I don't own any of the original characters or plots, only the new ones.

Prologue:

It had been a long time since the marriage of Nawat the crow and Alianne of Pirates Swoop.

There had been family, friends, even the trickster and the crows were there to witness that grand wedding.

Amongst the black mass of bored crows gathered to watch however, there had been a single crow perched alone on the top of the stone barracks with longing shining in its eyes.

Part One: Kaewa

Fwoop! Fwoop! Hundreds of pair of wings swooped down into the forest, accompanied by the loud cackling and cawing of hundreds of sharp black beaks. Searching for a particular nest, Chreli flapped her wings repeatedly to gain some balance. There! Decorated with many multi-coloured insect wings, which, unlike when the sunlight was stronger, winked dully under the pale watery light that was filtering weakly through the trees. It was hard to differentiate it against all the other dark brown nests. Quickly, if in a slightly wobbly way, Chreli landed with a grateful sigh.

"Get up." Chreli snapped at the sleepy form in the nest. The form unfurled about three inches, but stopped there. Black eyes blinked blearily, peering first at the meek sun peeking from the behind the leaves then at Chreli, who was busy preening her long feathers with a proud, barely suppressed glint in her eyes. The crow gave a long sigh and… "Yes? ". Chreli shot the crow-that-was-probably-the-only-one-who-was-not-interested-at-her-great-news, an annoyed look. She preened arrogantly at her already over-preened feathers, just to show her disapproval before replying "You missed the meeting." watching smugly as her companion immediately toppled out of its nest. "What?! When was it? How long has it been? Was He angry?" just listening to her frantic cawing was enough for Chreli to cackle softly in laughter. "No, He was not angry. He was more worried about what happened recently than whether there were enough of us there to listen to Him scheming away on those craz…" " What happened?" "Don't interrupt! Well it seems Dove was managing quite well, maintaining peace and making sure the Trickster had enough worship; signing peace treaties with all the neighboring countries… then all of a sudden there was this slight hint of war from this place called Farlen or something… He needs us to help Aly. I was chosen, and so are you. What do you think?" she looked at her wide-eyed companion questioningly. " It's… it's great!!" her companion managed to stutter.

"I know you'll like this!" Chreli gushed, all her arrogance gone, "Come on Kaewa! All the others are leaving when the sun sets."
