Arda Marred

They say he was a fool to go,
To leave for lands he did not know,
They say he was a villain too,
A monster, and perhaps it's true.

He slew his kin in ruthless fight,
He left them all to brave the night,
Rash, and bold, with cunning great,
And for the Dark One endless hate.

He left his wife, his sons, his home,
He struck out for the North alone,
He made the gems that caused it all,
And perhaps he did deserve his fall.

No love had he for brothers or
For Indis; he was Fëanor,
Scorching all who near him came;
Friend or foe, all burned the same.

His path was fire, ruin, death,
And bitter cold behind him left,
Darkness, hate, and shadow deep,
Sword and treason, endless sleep.

Though this was the fate of Arda Marred,
Broken and lost and greatly scarred,
There was glory before it all fell down,
Bright jewels high in an elven crown.

For there was also beauty there,
And gems like stars beyond compare,
Fire has life and warmth and love,
And a bright star in the skies above.

Gems that gave one eagle's eyes,
Tall towers that could brush the skies,
Wealth more great than one could tell,
In Tirion, before night fell.

And even after his fall from grace,
That fire still kept its dear-bought place,
One last flame, a soul still light,
One last flame drove back the night.

And they say he was a fool to go,
To leave for lands he did not know,
They say he was a villain too,
A monster, and it might be true.

But though that was the fate of Arda Marred,
Broken and lost and greatly scarred,
There was glory there, before it all fell down,
Three jewels bright in an elven crown.

A/N: Is it poetry? Yep. Did I promise myself I would never write poetry again until the sun burned down into a cold dead cinder? Also yes but we'll conveniently forget that for now. Anyway, the Author has returned from summer hibernation! For the first time in what feels like a decade, the weather is cool enough to wear flannel shirts without reproach, and in celebration this junk has been retrieved from the trash compacter where it belongs and delivered to y'all. Also, if you live in a timezone between the Middle East and the International Date Line, it is still September 29 at this moment, meaning that it is the fanfiction birthday of respected author KiyaNamiel. This particular piece of lunacy is dedicated to her, if she wants it. Have a wonderful day!
