I just was just watching "Aliens in a Spaceship" and felt the need to write this. Just a warning, it was literally written in about five minutes, without any editing, so any mistakes are my own.
And no, I don't own them.
His heart stopped the moment that he heard that man's voice on the phone. She was gone, and unless they could come up with money – lots of money – there was no way to get her back. It barely even registered to him that Hodgins was gone too. The bug man was someone he could live without. His partner was not.
--
His heart still wasn't beating, and it didn't help that Zach was pointing out that they had no more time; that the were out of air. He couldn't recall ever being in so much pain, or being so angry with his team that had suddenly decided to give up. He just wanted them to figure out the damn message, and stop telling him to calm down. Didn't they realize that he was never going to be calm again, not unless they found his partner; safe and alive.
--
His heart leaped into his chest when he saw that little puff of dust. It could have been anything, but he needed to believe it was them. He took of running, leaving the others behind in his dust. He ran so fast he thought his lungs would burst, until he was there. Then, he was on his knees, digging frantically until he reached her hand. He had found his partner.
--
His heart was finally beating regularly again. They were together, and he could keep on a eye on her to make sure she was really safe. It was all he could do not to just hold her forever, and never let go. But he pushed down the urge, and was simply content to know that his partner was safe, and that she wasn't going anywhere.
