How's it going, everybody? I'm so glad school is out, and that it's the weekend. Hallelujah. This is a very (emphasis on very) shoet drabble that I started this summer when we road tripped to Cali. We were on our way to Santa Barbra...and well the ocean is BIG. Enjoy!

The ocean, I've decided, is really, really big.

I don't think that people usually realize how big it is (it's very big).

Sure, it's there, it's on the map and swallows up the continents, but when you're standing with your toes being gently licked by the very edge of the Pacific, you see things a little differently. You see all this blue stretched out before you and all that blue is one, gigantic thing with other things in it that eat each other and bleed with each other and live with each other in some sort of hectic balance. It's just as scary as it is beautiful.

I think I'm starting to like the ocean, with all its chaotic blueness. It feels familiar.

"Whatcha thinkin' so hard about over here, Ichi?"

Ahh, so that's why it's so familiar.

"The ocean. I like it," I said. I turned around to face him. He was positively covered in grease from the broken down car that sat on the highway behind them. "Did you get the car running?"

He blew a strand of hair off of his forehead. "No. I got a tow truck coming, it should be here soon so…" His gaze drifted out towards the water.

A seagull flew overhead and squawked at them from above. Both our eyes were fixed on the ocean now, the big waves rolling out onto the shore.

We had a moment of silence, just calmly watching as a boat cruised by. Trapped in our own little world. Stranded on an abandoned road. No cars had come by in hours.

We stood there for what could have been hours; I couldn't really tell.

Without taking my gaze off the water, I spoke. "What time did you say that help was going to be here?"

"An hour or so," He replied. "Probably later, traffic should be bad…" He added as an afterthought.

I smiled. An hour was plenty of time.

Turning to face my husband, my final question fell out.

"Want to go swimming, Grimmjow?"
