Layla never knew if Warren actually liked her as a friend, or just gave up because she wouldn't leave him alone. He acted all tough, but…he wore a suit to Homecoming, just for her. After she and Will got together, Warren developed a strong tolerance/affection for both Layla and Will, but she was still the only one who approached him willingly. Will tended to let Warren sit by himself at the lunch table, ignore him in class, but whenever Warren made the first move to interact Will was always eager. Will didn't think it was wise to bother or approach Warren, even though they were friends Warren was still the bad boy loner who wanted his privacy.

Layla on the other hand, she sought out the brooding recluse's company whenever it pleased her and whenever it seemed to displease him, she didn't really care. Layla had decided that Warren was her friend whether he liked it or not.

The thing about being Layla's friend that made Warren feel the most uncomfortable was how touch-y feel-y she was. Layla was a person who liked to hug and touch her friends; it was just how she was brought up. Warren not used this kind of behavior. In the beginning when Layla would touch him in a friendly way, he would flinch or jump at the contact but soon he became accustomed to her.

He no longer minded when she pushed a lock of his hair behind his ear, out of his eyes at random moments in the lunchroom. Or when she gave him a congratulatory pat him on the back after a particularly good game of 'save the citizen'. Or one of her ever decreasingly rare hugs for no particular reason.

It was strange. Warren and Layla just seem to click in a way, Layla and Will never had. Almost completely oblivious Will surprised both Warren and Layla by becoming jealous of their relationship. When Will started to develop a problem with how touchy Layla was with Warren, Layla proved she could be just as oblivious as her once best friend now boyfriend counterpart and responded to his unwarranted jealous with a dreamy, "Wonder why…."
