The Baudelaire orphans thought nothing could come good of that day. That fateful day at the beach, when Mr. Poe had told them that their parents had died in the fire that destroyed their home. About a week afterwards, Mr. Poe had told them that they were to go live with Count Olaf.

When Mr. Poe dropped them off at the street he lived on, they saw one extremely pretty house that stood on the middle of a street. It seemed like it would be perfect to live there. They knocked on the door and that was answered by a girl with long strawberry coloured hair tied up with a ribbon in a pony-tail. "Hello? Hey, you must be the children Olaf's adopting. Well, you can stop buy, Tucker, no, don't try to get out the door!" The girl stopped to pick up a small black cocker spaniel. " My name's Elizabeth and this is my dog Tucker. You can come by to visit us anytime."

Beside that house, there was a smaller one. It wasn't as pretty as the first one they had stopped at, but it was better than some. When the knocked on the door, they were greeted by a tall, well built girl, who looked like a swimmer, with thick, dark red curls down to her waist.. " Hullo mates, you must be Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire." She had a thin retainer against her straight, white teeth, and thin, blue, wire-framed glasses. " Yes, we are the Baudelaires. Is the Count Olaf's home?" Her face fell. " Nay, this isn't his house. And I should hope it never will be." A small, weasel like animal came walking up to the door. The tall, red-haired girl bent down and picked it up. " So, if you aren't Olaf's neighbours, then who are you?" The girl smiled " My name's Krystyn" She held the little animal to her face. " This is my ferret, Belladine" She motioned them inside. " From what I heard, Olaf's won't be home for a few weeks… I know.." She smiled at the looks on their hopeful faces. " We have our basement."

Klaus looked slightly worried. " Don't…don't worry, it's not bad, I stay down there all the time, it's our living room." She smiled at Klaus, ' he is so handsome….. And he has the most soulful, beautiful eyes!' she thought.

" Do come in, won't you?" The oldest girl, and the youngest sister stepped inside the doorway, but the middle child, Klaus, hesitated, almost afraid.

" Are you ok?"

He shied away.

" Can I trust you? How do I know that you won't hurt us?"

Krystyn smiled.

" I'd never hurt anyone. I'll make sure no one hurts you either."

" How?" " I'm in karate, and gymnastic, cheerleading, swimming, and fencing."

" How do you do all that?"

" I'm on the j.v. cheerleading squad in my school, and I'm in the top swim team in my school, I swim with senior in high school, so I can fend for myself between all of them."

Krystyn put a thin, swimmer's arm around Klaus shoulders, and took his bag, and led him inside.

" Don't worry, I won't let anything happen to you."

Klaus shut his eyes as he entered Krystyn's house.
