She awoke in a cold sweat, heart racing and breathing quickly. A quick look around the room and a deep breath calmed her mind and helped her settle back in bed. These dreams she had couldn't be healthy, but it wasn't like they could be helped either. How was a doctor supposed to diagnose dreams about someone murdering someone brutally? The idea was just idiotic to her. It didn't matter though, she could suffer through it if she tried, even if she didn't want to.
She rested her head against her pillows once more and tried to close her eyes. Instead of a peaceful blackness, she saw images of her previous dream. Blood, spattered on every wall, a mangled corpse that could hardly be called human. Her eyes shot open realizing too late how stupid of a decision it had been to try and sleep again. She rubbed the sleep from her eyes and sat on the edge of her bed. With a quick glance to her clock, she saw it was only about 3 am, too early to go anywhere without looking midly suspicious.
Instead, she went off into the kitchenette of her shared apartment, throwing someone water into the kettle, and instant coffee into a mug. While she waited for the water to boil, she went through the fridge to see what to make for supper, and quickly came to the conclusion that she and her roomate had to go on a grocery run. She pulled out the last of the milk and poured it in with the dry instant coffee, putting the hot water in shortly afterwards. She took a careful sip, trying not to burn her tongue and enjoying the heat and caffine that came with it. She repeated this motion until she heard the front door open, then close quietly. Looks like her roomate was home. She came into the kitchen and dropped her bag on the counter.
"Hey Kan, how was class?" Her friend looked at her with a look of faint anger.
"It was fine, a class as per usual." She crossed her arms over her chest, and put on a motherly gaze. "But Vriska, why are you awake, again?"
Vriska gave her a small shrug and turned her gaze back to her coffee. "I just couldn't get back to sleep, that's all. A tiny nightmare." She winced at the word, knowing she had used the wrong one.
"Didn't I tell you to call or text me when you had one? I'm going to force you to see a psychiatrist one of these days... Having those dreams isn't normal." She shook her head, and took Vriska's coffee from her hand, dumping it down the sink.
"Hey-!" Kanaya shot her a glare and she was silenced instantly.
"I'm tired, let's just go to bed." She took Vriska's hand and pulled her towards her room. She pointed to the bed as she walked over to the closet and began to change into her sleeping clothes. Vriska got settled in the bed, grinning slightly and she tried (failed) not to watch Kanaya change. She turned her head away quickly as Kanaya turned to get into bed. Kanaya smiled at her. "It's cute how you try to hide the fact you watch me change."
Vriska's face flushed slightly, though she knew she had never fooled her. "I have no idea what you're talking about." She smirked and wrapped her arms around Kanaya, pulling her close. Kanaya just laughed and curled into Vriska.
"Whatever you say, love." She let out a small yawn, and closed her eyes. "Goodnight Vriska."
Vriska smiled and kissed Kanaya's forehead lightly. "Goodnight Kanaya." She closed her eyes as well, and within moment she settled into a peaceful, dreamless sleep.
