Disclaimer: I do not own American Girl, or Lanie, or Nicholas, or Aunt Hannah, or ladybugs, or anything else of any concern!
So this is my first story for Lanie but I figured why not? It's very clean so that's why it's K! It's honestly more friendshippy then romantic. Anyway, here it is!
Lanie Holland ran through the fields, careful to avoid stepping on healthy-looking plants. She soon spotted Nicholas, who was standing by where they normally worked together.
"Lanie!" he called when he saw her.
"Hi," she said hurrying up next to him and slipping down to sit on the grass. "Aunt Hannah dropped me off. Did you really find one?"
Nicholas smiled sheepishly. "No," he admitted. "I thought I did so I called you, but it was really ten-spotted."
Lanie was slightly disappointed, but she smiled anyway and said, "That's okay. We can look for more ladybugs. I really like it out here, so it's cool to be here when it's not gardening day. Don't you think?"
Nicholas laughed and nodded. "Yeah, kinda. I came out to drop something off and I figured I'd stay a few minutes. I saw a bunch when I was looking."
So they set off, browsing many of the different gardening rows and finding many different ladybugs. But nutter of them found a nine-spotted one. "I suppose they ARE really really rare," Lanie pointed out when they collapsed on a flat patch of non-hardened grass. "That's why we want to find it. And you found one, so what are the odds one will appear to you again?"
Nicholas sat down next to her and said jokingly, "I don't think it would like that. They're ladybugs, not gods. They don't 'appear' to people. They just kind of walk around."
Lanie giggled and rolled her eyes. "Whatever," she said, absent-mindedly scanning the ground for more ladybugs. She found she had started doing this all the time everywhere, thanks to Nicholas.
Nicholas jumped up. "Let's not just sit here," he said. "We haven't checked the back of the greenhouse. I bet ladybugs like it back there."
Lanie scrambled up and ran after him towards the greenhouse. Though the gardening area was deserted, it was a public place and she didn't feel like she was breaking the rules or anything.
There were a lot of ladybugs back there - certainly more then in the fields - but not one of them was nine-spotted. Lanie found a considerable amount that had only a few spots at all.
Finally, she stepped back. "I don't think we're going to find any," she said. "Not today."
Nicholas nodded. He too seemed to have come to that conclusion. Suddenly, Lanie had a great idea. "Why don't I show you my butterfly garden?" she suggested excitedly.
"Isn't that really far?" Nicholas said doubtfully. "We can't walk there or anything."
"Of course not," Lanie said instantly. "I'll text Aunt Hannah and tell her to pick us up. But she can pick us up down the road, so we can walk a little bit!"
Nicholas shrugged, and Lanie giggled. "Come on!" she'd exclaimed, and she grabbed his hand and pulled him towards the sidewalk, her white-gold hair flying in the light breeze.
Did you like it? I hope so! (That again) Please review!
So I know it was really short and kinda pointless but I hope you liked it anyway...! In case you're wondering, Nicholas is in Lanie's Real Adventures and they try to find ladybugs so yeah... Bye!
Linley =) (I just realised my name's kinda like Lanie!)
