It was late night, a lonely light was shining on a wall, lightening hopelessly a dark corner. Under that light, a beggar was sleeping, a long time empty bottle in his hand and thousand of memories in his head. It was a good place to sleep, that one: quiet, and hidden from curious look. He had his dignity, after all. The brick were of a pleasant orange, a warm colour, and he could quite feel their warmness through his full of holes jacket. It was his place, it had always been his, since ten years. Since that night, when he left the Titans…

No, it could be a good beginning, but, for this time, it is not the one for this story.

There was the moon, obviously, a beautiful full moon, which was playing hide and seek with clouds, creating strange game of lights on the houses of sleeping people. Only few eyes were open to admire that beautiful show, and Raven's ones were among those. She couldn't get sleep, it was always the same story, in summer time. It was a shame and a blame wasting those sweet nights sleeping, so her body reduced her need of sleeping, leaving her wandering around the city, looking the sleeping world, like if she was the last person in the world that could have witnesses that the world was still there, with his sharp corners and his soft winds, in all that surreal warmth.

It was during her wanders in the town that she had discovered the shadows, the old inhabitants of that town, who had forgot their death, and were condemned to repeat endlessly their action, without knowing the reason, like in their meaningless lives. She was the only one who could see them, she was sure, as she had seen too many times the few lovers of the night passing by them ignoring their cry of desperation, and sometimes passing through them, shivering, and blaming some invisible cold wind. So, she was their only one friend, and she knew where they were waiting her, hungry of information.

"How's my daughter? Did she marry that jerk in the end? Is she happy?"

"It's true that my love Jennifer got married again? She promised me eternal loyalty! Why? Why?"

She never really asked herself why, she was just their eyes in the world of living beings and eyes don't have to think; she had to keep her emotions under control, and it was already dangerous that she had accepted to sneak around the whole city like a thief, controlling other people's lives.

No one at the titans' tower knew that: it seldom happened that someone awakened in the middle of the night and noticed her absence, but she had always a good justification ready, so, when she had locked the door behind her shoulders, and the placid wind had welcomed her caressing her cheeks, she was no longer a Titan, she was just Raven. She used also to dismiss her usual dress: she preferred some more comfortable jeans and a plain black shirt; even with her powers it was dangerous to walk in the town….

This isn't a real beginning, it's more a story as you can see…

A lot similar with the first one: a night town, lonely and sad people.

They say that sleeping is like dying, and maybe that's what it's waiting for us after death, an eternal sleep. Or, maybe, just another beginning:

It was a warm, summer day, and we were all playing on the beach, waiting for the sunset…
