*-* Just thought I should mention before you start reading, that the idea for this story was in part inspired by some research I did on Greek mythology and is not actually about Greek Gods or Heroes. But still don't let that discourage you from reading; after all you came here with the intention of reading, right? ;P *-*

Prologue

A long line of brown and grey ducks surrounded the corner of the large pond. As I passed each one turned its head towards me expectantly, waiting for bread to be thrown as I had done countless times before since discovering this place almost less than a year ago.

I shook my head slightly in an attempt to clear my jumbled thoughts as I took a seat at my usual bench overlooking the length of the pond, for what could be the last time for a long while. Shouts from my right caused me to tense and reminded me of the little time I had left to linger here. The shouts gradually faded and my body relaxed slightly, thankful that 'they' were still unaware of my hideaway.

Cautiously I leant back into the bench and looked out over the pond taking in every detail such as how without the wind to ripple its waters it resembled a giant mirror reflecting the gloomy cloud filled sky above and the tall trees which surrounded it on all side thick enough to keep people from venturing into them for fear of losing their way. I briefly thought back to how I had found this place to begin with, purely by chance and an accident that I do not recall much of. I also thought back to my surprise at the discovery that no one in the village other than Ethan knew it existed.

'It must be nice to be a duck' I thought 'nothing but swimming, sleeping and eating' I groaned and rubbed my forehead in a feeble attempt to rid myself of the headache that was beginning to form, as my thoughts refused to un jumble themselves.

I froze at the sound of footsteps behind me, my hands still on my head. A hand grasped my shoulder.

'Relax.' Spoke a calm voice as the hand was removed from my shoulder and its owner jumped over the bench and sat next to me.

"Ethan" I sighed at him "Don't sneak up on me like that." My body had immediately relaxed once I had realised that it was Ethan and not one of our pursuers.

"We need to hurry" Ethan stated calmly as he rested his elbows on his knees and interwove his fingers whilst staring straight ahead, feigning deep thought however, I knew him well enough by now to know that his mind was alert and he was keeping watch.

"Right. I know, I was waiting for you."

Ethan nodded in reply, his gaze never shifting from the rippling waters of the pond, indicating that he had heard me and also that he wished for me to remain quite. I plunged my right hand into the inside pocket of my jacket and pulled out a palm size purple diary along with a purple biro. I settled back in the bench, feeling slightly more at ease knowing that Ethan was keeping watch and opened the diary to the next clean page and began to write as neatly as I could with the little time we had.

*-* So you read it, or did you just scroll to the bottom for the sake of it? :P This is only the prologue so if you liked it stick around and read the rest... please ;) I have the first few chapters wrote out somewhere so as soon as I go home to visit I shall hopefully have them on here .
