Author's note: I haven't even seen The Return, but I did read the scripts, so first I apologize for any mistakes I have made. I saw a scene in a video and I didn't know what had happened. After I found out, I felt I needed to write something, just because the scenes where Elizabeth is visited by Carson, and the dinner, broke my heart. Well, I would like to dedicate this to my wonderful beta Angel Leviathan, without her this wouldn't be understandable, and to ness; girl, you don't even know me, but a line from your fic Fall to Pieces, gave me the last push.
Feedback would be highly appreciated.
Home is where the heart is and my heart is out traveling.
Up into the wild blue yonder, wingless, prayerful that this miracle of flight will not end, just yet.

Elizabeth kept gazing at the bridge that separated her office from the control room.
Her office.
In her home.
She felt tears pricking her eyes. Her sight was glassy, she was crying for sheer happiness. She was home.
She raised her right hand and touched every surface... over the pillars, the rail of the bridge, the glass on her office door. She felt like a blind woman who had just regained her sight.
"Home," she whispered, her eyes closed. The tears were still silently running down her face and she started to dry them with the sleeve of her jacket.
"It seems you have some redecorating to do."
She jumped, hearing John's voice, and turned to face him.
"Hey, 'you okay?" he asked, with a worried expression, while closing the distance between them in two long and fluid strides. He was in front of her, his face a puzzle of indescribable emotions, and before John could move or do anything else, Elizabeth hugged him with a strength he hadn't realized she physically possessed, almost crushing him. This time, he answered the embrace with the same emotion she poured in it, burying his head in her hair... God, it smelled so good.
"Thank you," he heard her say. Something stirred within him at those two simple words. Elizabeth kept repeating them.
"It's okay."
Elizabeth started to shake in his embrace, he only held her tighter.
"Thank you for bringing me home."
He moved his right hand to the back of her head, feeling the soft curls beneath his fingers.
"That means we can stay?" he felt her laugh.
"Yes, we can stay."
John felt like he had to say something ... something meaningful.
"I'm sorry for those six weeks... I wish I could have brought you back sooner... I wish I could make this time go away; erase it."
Elizabeth shook her head, still in his arms, "It doesn't matter," she paused, trying to compose herself, "Thank you for bringing me back."
They stood there for what seemed like an eternity, John trying to regain his composure.
"Two softies, that's what we are," she said, and it was his turn to laugh. He managed to untangle from her, even though he didn't want to. She moved aside, but he kept his right arm around her shoulder while crossing the bridge towards the control room.
"Come on," said Elizabeth "We have a lot of work to do."
"Because if I could -- if it were possible -- I would take you home."
