It was pure luck.
But hey, it happened and I'm not much of a complainer. When you haven't eaten for five days and you're presented with such a golden opportunity, you take it. Admittedly, I did have some hesitation, but it's far too late for regrets.
I was born in a village near the outskirts of Geffen. Naturally, as a kid I had a fascination with magic and the like, but I never really got the opportunity to pursue it. It didn't really bother me that much, it was only a childhood fantasy to be a wizard. But that's not important. The important part is the fact that I ran away from home at thirteen. Sound cliche? It is.
So you may ask, why would a girl like me run away from home? Well, what's the usual reason? That's right, family. I was neglected by my parents (big surprise), and I wasn't willing to deal with that. They probably didn't even love me, and if they did, they were sure as hell good at hiding it. They weren't even home 99% of the time, and god knows why (I think I heard once they ran a massive vending organization, but I can't even confirm that). They did give me the occasional birthday gift. But just that. No cake, no celebration, just a gift I found on my desk. Heartbreaking, I'm sure. But I didn't care. If they didn't want me, I wasn't going to stay and live a life like that.
The next question; as a 16-year-old young woman now, what have I done over the past three years? I can't really answer that question. I traveled from city to city, taking whatever jobs (legal or illegal) I could find to survive by myself. I never had enough money to commit myself to one city, so I slept wherever I could. If I got lucky, I had enough money for an inn, but that was rare. Regardless, I survived, and that was it. Sure, I went days without food. But honestly, I was enjoying this life far more than one where I was confined to a village, living in a house with people who didn't seem to love me, and weren't actually there.
But I got into some bad trouble in Alberta. For reasons I'd rather not delve into, I pissed off someone big in the underground scene. I was hunted for days, but using my knowledge of the streets and the forest, I managed to escape them and make it here to Prontera. I hope they gave up, but I'm still not taking any chances.
Now imagine my surprise when this well-dressed, elegant, and aristocratic gentleman approaches this starved woman with poor hygiene, rags that served as a petty excuse for clothes, and the eyes of a ghost with an offer that couldn't possibly be real. He tapped my shoulder, and began speaking in a voice that had to have rehearsed proceeding lines hundreds of times.
"How would you like the chance to redo your life? Would you like a warm, comfortable home, and security? Best of all, would you like the chance to be anything you want? All you need to say is yes."
To someone who hadn't eaten for five days, was on the run from a gang lord, and was simply desperate and dare I say- vulnerable, this was the offer of a life time. I would tend to think things through, but I didn't want to let this chance go. Without hesitation, I said yes. I didn't ask for any more details. He confirmed my answer three more times, making me slightly suspicious, but I didn't change my answer. I was taking this opportunity.
He suddenly grabbed my hand, and I saw a flash of light. When I opened my eyes, I noticed that I wasn't quite in Prontera anymore.
If you could suggest a better title, that would be very helpful. I'm terrible with titles.
