Breaking Point

The spider web in the back yard had been removed from the tree, and the candles placed in storage. The fire pit had been filled in and the stray ashes swept away. All vestiges of the Halloween party were lost, as was, apparently, the passion Sirius and Remus had almost given into that night, or so it seemed to Sirius, and he was less than pleased about it.

"We almost kissed!" he thought irritably, staring blankly out the window at the exact spot where it had almost happened. "And now you'd think he'd forgotten or something!"

Sirius could see Remus out of the corner of his eye. His roommate was sitting and reading a book, completely absorbed in it, or so Sirius thought. What he didn't know was that Remus hadn't turned a page in over an hour, and was actually watching Sirius and thinking of that same evening that was so prominent in Sirius' mind.

Finally Remus glanced at the clock and shut his book. Standing up, he set it on the table. "I'm going for a walk," he announced.

"Okay. I'll probably go out and visit James and Lily," Sirius replied, standing himself.

They each walked to opposite ends of the room, heading to their own destinations, when they both paused in the doorway and looked back. The air between them crackled, and something snapped.

Before either of them could register what was going on, they were in each other's arms in the middle of the room, hands traveling everywhere, eyes searching out the hidden secrets in the other's mind. And then they were kissing, passionately, as all the fire that had been stoked for so long burst into glorious life.

"Love you. Love you so much," Remus was murmuring, dusting kisses all over Sirius' face.

"Love you too. For so long. Love you," Sirius replied, kissing Remus back.

"You're wearing too much clothing," Remus growled, his hands sliding out of Sirius' hair and down to the edge of his black shirt, tugging at it.

"I'm not the only one." Sirius bit Remus on the neck, causing him to gasp and press more tightly against Sirius.

"Not here," Remus hissed urgently. "Not for the first time. Not here on the floor. My room. Now."

Sirius wasn't about to argue.

Afterwards they lay in a sweaty heap in Remus' bed, arms tightly entwined about each other.

"What set that off?" Sirius finally asked, amusement in his voice.

"I think we hit the breaking point," Remus replied sleepily, kissing the top of his new lovers head. "There was only so much romantic and sexual tension between us that we could stand before we snapped."

"It's about bloody time."

"I agree. I am merely surprised it took so long," Remus sighed, obviously drifting off.

Sirius smiled against the warm flesh of Remus' chest. "Me too," he murmured, then allowed himself to lose his grip on the waking world as well. After all, then he could wake up and find Remus there with him, and he could think of nothing better in the world.
