A walk to remember

Based on the movie. This is a Jay and Darcy fic. I don't like Darcy but I decided she fit the part the best. It begins about 8 years from now and flashes back to their childhood and eventually ends in the present.

A grown man of around 24 sat down one day and pulled out his journal. He sat cross legged on the couch as he began to write "I was born in Toronto, Ontario. A place where the air always smells of Must and Gas and Maple syrup."

He took a drag of his cigarette as he tilted his head. He reread what he wrote quickly and continued "For many, days and nights are spent hanging out at the ravine or Chilling at the park."

He itched his chin as he made sure it all made sense and added "While the streets may be the focus of daily labor, churches to most people have always tried to be the focus of life."

"When I lived here, there were only 3 churches within the city limits" he sighed taking a deep breath

"They sponsored pancake breakfasts, rummage sales, car washes, and softball games. You'd think that all the people here were friendly, welcoming, open-hearted in this big city..." he paused and stared at the words on the page for a few minutes

"…and that money or family background or education or luck didn't matter."

He wasn't one for words but after his life took a turn for the good he found himself in his journals.

"But they did fucking matter. They mattered to fucking everyone. Except Darcy Edwards..."

He slammed his journal shut as he felt tears form at the corners of his eyes. He got up grabbed his hat and sunglasses and headed out.
