A Wizard's Quest
Part One
Majin Magus
My name is Sallainla. I am a human female wizard. My religion is Karana. I was born in Qeynos, one of the largest cities on the Antonica continent, I think.
The day is 27 February of the year 3189. I sit up from inside the home of a shopkeeper I spent the night in. As I exit the shop, I toss 15cp to the proprietor. That's all the money I have, unfortunately.
I have the basic questing items: enough biscuits and milk to last for five days, and my dagger. The shiny, irreplaceable knife is my weapon, though I have never fought anything out in the field.
"Well, I think I'll try today," I say, thinking out loud. I walk through North Qeynos, going behind the Trading Post and out into the field.
In the field, there are lots of people, each chasing their own targets. Four or five try to kill one of the stronger gnolls of the Darkpaw clan. I wince as two fall dead.
Thinking I won't try that for a while, I spy a large a distance from the protected castle gate. I run after it, trying not to make eye contact with the beetles and gnolls. I'm sure that would just make them chase after me.
"Alright, rat, let's go." I smirk and raise my dagger. The rodent snaps at me and leaves a mark of blood on my ankle. Then, from behind, I feel a bite that burns. I turn to see on of the royal fire beetles.
Soon, as I flail my dagger helplessly, a snake joins the fight. With a cry of fear, I turn and run back to the gate at high speed. I feel burning bites and the pierce of fangs as I run, but I just stagger; I don't stop.
Stumbling onto the gate, I slump down. Sweat runs down my face and I see the guards quickly killing the beasts that were after me. With my head in my hands, I wait for my energy to return.
"Hi, I'm Shilaylee. You having a hard time?" I hear a voice ask. I look up. Sitting next to me was a girl with a smile on her face. She might be a barbarian, I'm not sure. She looked experienced and very strong, though I cannot be sure.
I was going to say I was doing okay, but I grin in self pity. "Nice to meet you, my name is Sallainla. Actually, yes," I reply, staring out into the field. For a few moments I watched others of all races and classes slay the beasts in the field.
"Well, take this," she said. She put two cold coins into my hand. Then she got up and ran off in the field. I stared at the money, then at her retreating back.
It was two platinum pieces. My jaw dropped open as I watched her disappear. I stand up, still in shock. A person who must have seen the transaction walked over. He was a cleric…I think.
"Maybe you should put some of that into the bank," he suggests, then runs off into the field. The sun sets as he disappears around a corner.
I nod, all too slow to thank him for the advice. As dusk falls, I turn and walk back into the town. Two platinum!! I might as well put some into the bank.
"I'll go get some armor tomorrow," I say, grinning. I walk into South Qeynos.
Well, to be continued…
Note: Sorry it was so short, but I didn't feel much like typing a long story.
