Chapter1

Pick. Pick. I have to choose the right person. But who? Where my thoughts as I paced along the long hallway. This isn't easy!

I gave my head a slight shake before I entered the room where my destiny was held-or so I was told. Inside four extremely handsome men where waiting patiently for me. All of them had a sense of nobility and were chosen carefully by the Great King and queen of Meridian, my parents. In other words, I had to choose a husband.

Then a knock on the door. In came the former Mrs. Rudolph and Caleb followed by my parents who were smiling.

" So!" my father said gallantly as he looked from me to the four men. " Has our daughter picked the final choice?" I had an unsure look on my face and looked pleadingly to my mom.

" Honey don't pressure our little girl. You know how long these things take. It doesn't happen overnight." mom said then turned reassuringly and hugged me. " It's okay sweetie, take your time." I gave her a small smile to tell her that I was going to be okay. Then my mom faced the likely candidates to be my husband and said, " You don't mind coming back again tomorrow do you?"

The four men looked at each other and bowed down to my mother as if saying yes. I watched as they left the room then turned to my parents.

" Mom, Dad," I spoke. " You really think there's enough time? You don't think I'm taking too long? It's been three days!"

My mom put her hand on my shoulder. " Like I said dear, these things take time."

" Why, your mom took a longer time to choose than you did!" said my dad teasingly. My mom gave him a look.

" SO you're saying it's okay for me to disturb you during your patrols on Galas and Festivals?" I said slowly.

" Not technically…" said my mom.

" Oops! Speaking of Galas- don't you think we better get a move on if we want to get good seats?" rushed my dad as he leapt forward and disappeared through the door. My mom gave me a kiss on the forehead.

" Night honey! Oh and we'll be back late." she reminded and followed my dad down the stairs and out the gates of the castle on the carriage. I gave a large tiring sigh and slumped on the chair near the window as I watched the carriage turn a corner and disappear.

" Galgheita?" I murmured. The former Mrs. Rudolph turned after closing the doors to the room leaving her, Caleb and me alone.

" What is it?" she said.

" … I dunno, I guess I'm just tired" I said finally. True, it had been a long hard day. Aside from picking a suitable future king for Meridian, I had to attend to the wedding rehearsal for Taranee's wedding and avoid being seen from Irma's dad, I had to help Vathek recruit new soldiers for the Castle Guard and to top it all off, the Great Festival of Lights is coming and I had to help the citizens prepare. I rested my head on my hand and closed my eyes. I breathed deeply and let it go. It felt good. I could feel the small night breeze through the window and I gave a small shiver. Then I felt the warmth of a native woolen blanket cover me and before I knew it I was off to dream land.
