Conspiracy Amiss!
Nobility is to be question as the present children come to age. With the liberal mind of Fortinbras Jr., and the recent, dubiously moral actions of our new Lord and King, the writer of this article confesses a fear of children. The lack of honor and respectable role models are the cause of the prevalent fear that so clutches me, begs and nags me to be expressed. Our young generation is a premonition of a dark future, a dismal foreshadowing that the sins of their fathers will reflect.
"What has provoked such pessimism in such a pleasant state as ours," you may inquire. To be fair, such thoughts and suspicions have plagued my mind of late, but I pushed them afar, for belief that such thoughts were treason. However, not more than two ev'nings ago, I was out on a midnight stroll through our city and managed to hear drunken talk of desperation—and sincere frightfulness. Brief spices of conversation reach my ears, delivered by an unseen messenger that kept the night cool.
"A mote it is to trouble the mind's eye."
How truth echoed in my ears! I paused, and heard bits more.
"And even like the precursor of feared events…and prologue to omen coming."
Though I know not the context of their affairs, the words confirmed mine. Here in Denmark, something is afoot. The King, in grieving, weds his saddened sister-in-law, both of whom appeared hasty in this melancholy time to commit a controversial sin. Fortinbras, Jr. forfeits honor and the honor of his father with his offensive preparations.
Is there not a reason to hope?
The future comes tomorrow, and I'll sleep not tonight.
