Annabeth's POV
One day, while searching through a bin of old photos, Mrs. Jackson found one photo that struck an old memory hidden deep within the old, dark, days with Luke and Thalia. I was surprised that when fate brought us together, I did not recognize him.
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Luke and Thalia had stopped at a small park in Manhattan so I could play and get rid of my unwanted energy. A little boy about my age, dangled from the monkey bars with one hand. I ran over to him knowing that he was going to fall any second and held my hand out to him.
"Here, grab on." I said.
The boy took my hand carefully and I pulled him to the play structure.
"Thanks!" He said grinning a large goofy smile.
I looked down and tried my best not to back away. Usually people with this much enthusiasm wanted to kill me.
"Um… you're welcome."
I studied the boy carefully. He had messy black hair, his two front teeth were missing, he had woodchips stuck to his clothes like he had rolled around the ground and I was a hand taller than him. What really made me stop were his eyes. They were a odd blue-green, like the ocean, an unusual color for any normal boy's eyes.
"Are you okay?" I asked.
"Yeah…I guess." his grin faded into a frown. "I was trying to do the monkey bars but each time I slip and fall."
I was quite good at the monkey bars. I glanced at Luke and Thalia. They were on the swings deep in conversation.
"I could teach you." I offered.
"Okay!"
I crossed to the other side of the play set.
The boy grabbed on to the bar and he swung there, waiting for me to tell him what to do.
"Now really slowly put your hand on the next bar and work your way forward."
He made it to about the middle and then fell.
"are you okay?" I cried.
He nodded.
"Okay, try again but don't get overconfident."
He looked at me, shocked to see a eight year old girl say such a big word.
The boy climbed up the stairs and tried again, this time, reaching the other side.
"Wow! Thanks!"
"What's your name?" I inquired.
"I'm Percy."
"Oh, I'm Annabeth."
Percy glanced over at a middle aged woman taking a picture of us and turned to me.
"Oh, no. Annabeth, I've gotta go. Will I see you again?"
I frowned.
"Nope. Sorry, I'm only visiting."
"Oh. Well, thanks for teaching me."
"Welcome." I replied.
"Bye, Annabeth."
"Bye, Percy."
He ran off to his mother.

I was jealous of that boy. I thought he wasn't chased by monsters; he'd only had one school and could read books easily. But I was soooooo very wrong. Nowadays, I wished we could be normal and innocent as we were. For once in my frightening life, I felt normal and accepted.
