Steve McGarrett looked at his reflection. He knew it was the end. He had endured a lot in his thirty-five years, too much. He was a sixteen year old teenager when he was told his mother had died in a car accident. He was on the phone with his father when he was murdered. His life was a complete wreck. Anyone who he cared about was always the target to some plan that was designed to hurt him. He was the cause of their scariest moments. He didn't deserve them.

Then there was the topic of the men and women he had killed during his life. He was taught not to dwindle on those things but he couldn't help it. It was two week ago when a young woman came running into HQ, yelling that he had murdered her husband. She was quickly subdued but the damage was already done. That night, Steve had dug into her identity and found out that he had killed her husband in a drug bust a few months ago. An emotion ran through his brain, one that he was trained not to think; remorse.

Ever since that day, he began to think about the men and women he had killed. He began to ponder whether there could have been another way. They might have been bad but they meant the world to someone. They had families. They had lovers. They had a whole life in front of them. But he ended all that.

He ran his hand through his hair. He knew this day would come but he could not have imagined it would be like this. Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out his cell phone and punched in the number that he had memorized by heart.

He picked up in one ring.

"Hey Steve, what's going on?" said Danny on the other side.

"I'm sorry..." said Steve almost in a whisper. He dropped the phone and felt his eyes water. He had to do this. There was no other way.

"Steve what's going on!? I'm coming!"

Steve picked up the gun that he had left on the sink. He checked if it was loaded and was satisfied with what he found.

"Steve talk to me!" yelled Danny frantically.

"I'm sorry Danno..." said Steve, this time a little louder. He closed his eyes and rested the gun on his forehead.

"Don't do it!"

Snapping his eyes open, he didn't listen to his partner. He was an asshole. Danny deserved someone better. "Good bye."

"No Steve!"

A gun shot was his only response.
