Ryan Wolfe didn't know how much more of this he could take. The cold looks he constantly received sent shivers down his spine every second he was in that lab. It was the job he'd always wanted one that he was determined to do well in. He wasn't trying to prove himself or out do speed but everyday was a battle for him. Everyday he was fighting to be recognized for his work and not to be compared to the way he did things over Speed.

Ryan understood that they were hurting and that they had lost a member of their family that day but it wasn't his fault. He didn't pull the trigger. Every case he worked on and every case he helped solve was an accomplishment. It made him feel like his life was worth something. He knew he was doing a good job, it was just the rest of the team didn't seem to notice or rather didn't want to notice he was good at what he was doing. Maybe, Ryan thought, they felt that if they accepted him then they would lose Speed for good.

Didn't they see that what they were doing was making work something that he dreaded? For Ryan going home was something he looked forward to the moment he got there. He heard the tone of voice that the others used when they talked among themselves. It was friendly and warm not like when they talked to him. When anyone talked to Ryan their voice was harsh and on the verge of accusing. Accusing him of what, Ryan wasn't sure. It wasn't just Calleigh and Eric that were causing him to feel isolated his boss was too. Horatio Caine's constant use of 'Mister Wolfe' made him feel like he was being talked down to; hell it made him feel like a suspect.

Only one person made Ryan feel welcome. Alexx Woods. When Ryan was with her he could forget everything that was happening in the main lab. He could talk about his problems and feelings. Alexx had promised him that she wouldn't tell anyone about their conversations. He knew he could trust her though, he knew the more he spoke about his experiences with the rest of the team it was getting harder for her not to rush into the lab and yell at anyone that was present.

Ryan knew that to give up now would mean that they had won. But then the next guy would have to come and have to try and put up with what he was going through. It would also mean that he quit, and Ryan hated to think of himself as a quitter. He'd only been there a few weeks maybe it would get better in time. He hoped it would get better in time.
