"There will be a Masquerade Ball hosted again this year…"

Hugo was actually kind of excited for this ball, he usually never was one for dances and balls, which his family went often, due to him never being able to get a date, but the rules of this ball made it different. Everybody had to wear a mask and it was recommended they charm their appearance to be different. The hall was going to have a charm so when you entered your voice change and so that at Midnight all appearance charms will vanish and people are encouraged to remove their masks. The dance was scheduled to start at eight-thirty and end a twelve thirty, giving people a half an hour without masks, just being themselves. He could hear his cousins a table over discussing it. James was saying how he would use it as a chance to 'score' more girls, Albus was saying how it wasn't fair he wouldn't be able to know which girl was his girlfriend, Marie Wood, and that he would have to spend the night without her. Rosie and Dominique were gushing over outfits they could wear. The only cousin he didn't hear make a comment was fellow-Ravenclaw Lily Potter, she just seemed to ignore the fact that there was a dance.

Adjusting his blue tie again, Hugo looked at himself in the mirror; he had a plain black tuxedo with a blue tie. He reached over to the dresser, picking up his black mask and slipping it over his brown eyes. To finish it off he grabbed his wand and bewitched his normally ginger hair to be blonde and his brown eyes to be silver. Content with his appearance, he walked out of the room and into the Great Hall, no one seeing him on the way.

The party had been going on for a half an hour by now, Hugo having danced with many girls by then. He was just

going over to the snack table to get himself some pumpkin juice when he heard heels on the staircase. His head swiveled to look at the new arrival and his jaw all-but-dropped. She was beautiful. She had on a sparkling gold dress that swished around her thighs when she walked, her heels and mask both simply gold. She had pale skin and dark red hair that was set in loose curls. She walked through the room and over to the snack table, Hugo snapped himself into focus, it wouldn't look good if she walked over to find him staring. When she approached the table, Hugo turned to start a conversation.

"Hello, how are you today?" He started, he normally would have started by introducing himself but another enchantment on the room prevented people from saying names. She turned and looked at him, bright green eyes meeting his now-silver ones.

"Why hello, I am fine and how are you?" She replied, her voice sounding like one would imagine an angel to sound. He hoped her voice actually sounded similar to that, it was beautiful.

"I am great, care to dance?" He offered his hand, hoping she would take it. She did and he whisker her out to the dance floor where they seemed to dance forever. They continued to dance aas the songs changed, neither noticing due to being lost in conversation.

Hugo found himself looking down at her lips a lot, he wanted to kiss her, though she would probably slap him. But at least she wouldn't know who he was. Right? That was a good enough thought for him. He stooped down and quickly kissed her pale pink lips, surprised when she wrapped her arms around his neck and kiss him back. Pulling away he smiled happily, pleased to see her smiling as well. Then the clock struck midnight and he was awaiting the moment when he could see who she was. When he saw, Hugo booked it out of the hall embarrassed.

It was Lily, his cousin Lily.

A/N What do you think? My first ever fanfiction. Please review and let me know what you think. Also, do you think I should keep the character as just saying Hugo or should I have it say Hugo and Lily? Would that give away the mystery? Give me your opinion.
