Criminal Scum
"Well, here's your food." Velus Hosidius said, placing a plate of ham and corn in front of his customer, Maro Rufus.
"Thanks Velus, I'm starving." Maro Rufus replied.
Maro Rufus had a long day of working in his shop, he set up displays of armor, and had to fix them several times as rude and careless shoppers knocked them over. He barely even sold anything the whole day, to go along with that, he sold a single leather shield, but the customer bargained so harshly, Maro Rufus got just a few coins for it, most of which he's spending on this meal.
After eating most of his food, he stopped to yawn, he knew he would need to get right to sleep as soon as he got home, in his carelessness, he reached for some of his corn, but his hand slipped, and brushed against the plate.
"Uh-oh..." he muttered.
The inn fell silent for a brief moment, before the silence was broken by panicked shouting.
"GUARDS, COME QUICKLY, WE HAVE A BURGLAR ON OUR HANDS!" Velus Hosidius was yelling as loud as he could.
"No! I'm sorry, it was an accident! I wasn't stealing anything, okay? I really wasn't-" Maro Rufus started.
"STOP RIGHT THERE CRIMINAL SCUM!" a voice interrupted him, he turned his head towards the door and saw the guard captain, Audens Avidius, approaching him, two more guards stood blocking the door, all of them were in full armor and Audens Avidius had his hand on the hilt of his sword, prepared to draw it at any sign of resistance.
"Nobody breaks the law on my watch! I'm confiscating your stolen goods. Now pay your fine or it's off to jail." Audens Avidius glared at Maro Rufus as he shouted at him.
"But, I don't have any stolen goods, I didn't take anything, it's all a misunderstanding..." Maro Rufus pleaded with the guard captain. Audens Avidius removed about an inch of his sword from the hilt, showing off the shining silver.
"Your bounty is one Septim, lawbreaker! Are you paying it or heading off to jail?" Audens Avidius maintained his glare as he questioned Maro Rufus.
Maro Rufus decided it would be best to just pay the fine, so he reached into his pocket, then he reached into his other pocket. Something was definitely wrong, his money was gone, it must have been stolen. He did recall a shady looking character lurking in the shadow earlier who had since disappeared, but there's nothing he could do about that now.
"I can't... Someone stole my money, I don't have anything left, can't you just let this one thing go?" Maro Rufus pleaded.
"It's not my job to let criminals walk free! If you can't pay the fine, you'll have to serve your prison sentence!" Audens Avidius' rage seemed to be escalating by the moment.
"Fine, I have no choice..." Maro Rufus gave up with a sigh, his shoulders slumped in his depression.
"Hope you rot, criminal scum!" Audens Avidius spat out at Maro Rufus, as he grabbed him roughly, forcing him into shackles and pushing him out of the door and into the streets of the city.
"I really hate this city..." Maro Rufus muttered to himself as the guards forced him towards the Prison District.
