It's the grey eyes. That's what gets Louis at first.

Scorpius Malfoy's grey eyes takes him and pulls him in and captures him. It's little things at first, like noticing his eyes and how his hair curls slightly when it's hot outside and how he's left-handed and how he only slightly slouches and how he has a dimple in his right cheek, but not his left one.

Louis falls in love with Scorpius Malfoy and this means so many things for Louis but it means two big things in particular —

He's gay, for one. He knows his parents will but fine with it, but still. It's A Thing. Coming out will be one big Thing that Louis isn't sure he wants to really deal with.

Also, he's in love with a Malfoy.

Malfoys and Weasleys… well, they mix as well as oil and water. Louis isn't sure how that'd blow over.

Oh, there's also that fact that it's pretty obvious to the entire population of Hogwarts that Albus Potter is head-over-heels in love with Scorpius, too. And, judging by the way Louis could see them sitting together in the Great Hall at every meal, Scorpius might love Albus back.

All Louis has to do is tell Scorpius that he loves him. Which he probably won't do; he doesn't even have the courage to talk to Scorpius, to look into his nice grey eyes. He definitely doesn't have the courage to tell Scorpius that he loves him.

It's a minor bump in the road.

Louis has never planned to bump into Scorpius. That's not how he rolls. Yes, he's slightly, maybe, a little in love with Scorpius. That doesn't mean he wants to talk to Scorpius!

And yet Louis bumps into Scorpius anyway. Well, more like crashes straight into him because he's walking too fast because he's late to meet up with his friends.

Scorpius holds out a hand, steadying Louis and Louis' heart is beating way too fast because he's looking into those eyes. Those grey eyes.

Gah.

"Sorry," Scorpius says, giving Louis a small smile. Louis' heart is melting. He's so cute. Gah. Louis knows that he should say something, but his throat is stuck.

"It's fine," Louis says finally, his legs feeling like jelly. This isn't how he wanted his first meeting with Scorpius to go. "I'm Louis," he blurts out, even though he's pretty certain Scorpius doesn't care.

"Scorpius," Scorpius says.

I know, Louis thinks.

"You're Albus' cousin, right?" Scorpius asks, giving Louis a smile, his dimple appearing. Louis makes his head nod. "I'm actually going to go meet him now."

Louis' heart sinks. Did they —? Are they —? Louis can think of ten million different reasons why Scorpius is meeting up with Albus, but he likes none of them.

Still, he has nothing to say to Scorpius, so he looks into Scorpius' grey eyes, taking them in as if he hasn't already memorized them, and says:

"Tell him I say hi!"

Scorpius smiles and nods, walking off.

Louis' heart continues to sink, heading towards the floor.
