Was packing up my bookcases and found the Book Thief again :) I got it a couple years ago for Christmas and it's been a favorite so I figured I'd write a one-shot about it. Disclaimer: I do not own the Book Thief or it's characters.
Colors
Liesel didn't like very many colors. They brought back too many memories, most bad. There were colors she couldn't even look at and colors that reminded her too much of loves lost. Of lives lost. The lives and loves lost were the easiest colors to look at, even if she couldn't bear the feelings that came with them.
Silver, the color of Papa's eyes.
Pink, the color of Mama.
Yellow, the color of Rudy's hair.
White, were they buried Werner.
Green, the color of Mama's pea soup
The colors that reminded her of the death and destruction that followed the Nazi's in their wake were the worst. Harsh, brutal, and far too vibrant to ignore. Liesel wished she could close her eyes against the world when she saw them sometimes. Close her eyes and forget, but what good would that do her?
Red, the color of blood and a flag once flown.
Black, the color of bombs and a symbol feared.
Grey, the color of ashes and dead bodies.
Blue, the color of eyes that were once favored.
Orange, the color of burning flames and a blood drenched sun.
Looking on it Liesel realized that there weren't many colors she liked. While there were numerous she could list if one asked what her favorite color wasn't, she couldn't think of one single color she could list if someone asked what was. Wait, she could think of one.
Brown, the eyes of a Jewish fist-fighter and a book thief.
Hope you liked it. Reviews make the world go round.
Ciao
