Why?

That's all he wanted to know was…why? Why had he done that? Why had he made Alice so upset? Why had he lost control?…

Glancing at his watch, Jasper Hale noticed it was 1:45 in the morning, and he sighed. Lying back against a tree, he stared up at the moon that shone so brightly up above his head. Watching it, he noticed that clouds were starting to form, dark ones that blocked out the moon's bright light and made him feel even worse. He wished so badly that Alice was here. She always knew how to make him feel better. But he was positive that she was disappointed in him. He had attacked Edward's precious Bella…He couldn't help it. The blood…it was just too much for him to handle. All of his progress just…disappeared in that moment, made him too weak. He absolutely hated feeling weak. It always made him think about past times, back before he met Alice, when he was still with Maria…

Hissing in disgust, Jasper stood up and angrily stormed off again, walking deeper and deeper into the forest. He hoped he would get lost, just stay here for the rest of his life, knowing that no one at home wanted him back…He stopped abruptly when he felt a raindrop hit his nose. Looking up, Jasper watched as the rain fell slowly from the black sky, like tiny, sparkling stars falling to Earth…

He became so entranced in this that he didn't notice a small, black haired woman walk behind him. Alice Cullen watched him as he stared at the rain, smiling slightly. She walked over to him, sliding her hand in his. Jasper immediately turned to look at her, silence filling the air. Alice looked at him, right into his eyes, where she could see everything he was thinking. "Jazz…I'm not mad at you."

Jasper turned away, frowning. How could she say that? He knew, he just knew she was disappointed. Alice watched him, sighing. "Jazz, if you don't believe me, just see for yourself. Read my emotions." Jasper turned towards her, staring into her eyes. Alice merely watched him, silent.

After a moment, Alice saw the feeling in Jasper's eyes change. He looked relieved, astonished, even. He let go of her hand and picked her up, wrapping his arms around her. Alice breathed a sigh of relief, burying her face into his neck. Stroking her hair, Jasper sat down against a tree, pulling Alice safely into his lap. She wrapped her arms around his waist, snuggling close to him. Jasper was silent for a moment, then sighed and rested his head on top of hers. "Alice…I'm so sorry."

Alice knew he was going to say this. Sighing, she sat up, facing him. "Jasper, there's no need for you to be sorry. You couldn't help it…it's ok." Jasper looked down, biting his lip. Alice watched him, "Oh Jazz please…" She took his face in her hands, pulling it up so he was looking at her. "Please don't be sad. I hate it when you're sad." Jasper looked at her, and he felt terrible. Her face…it made him want to cry. She looked so sad, so broken down…and it was all his fault. Alice watched as his face fell again, and she immediately hugged him. "Oh God Jasper…please. I love you too much to let you be so sad." She ran her fingers through his hair, trying so hard to make him feel better. Jasper closed his eyes, relaxing. Alice was always so sweet, so kind and loving…he knew he couldn't ask for someone better than her.

Jasper gently pulled her back, looking at her face. She was anxious to see how he felt, her golden eyes watching him closely. Smiling, Jasper leaned toward her so that their foreheads were touching. "Hey Alice…" he whispered.

Alice grinned. "What is it, Jazz?" she asked, stroking his cheek with her fingertip. Jasper pressed his lips to hers, kissing her softly. "I love you." Alice responded by wrapping her arms around his neck and kissing him back. "I love you too."
