"What? Again? Are you kidding me? We got here just a friggin month ago Dad ", said Sam. Needless to say he wasn't very happy with moving again.

"Sam we are saving lives here. A demon is tormenting the people of Jericho at this very moment. I doubt its as important as whatever you're doing in your high school", John wasn't happy with having this conversation again either.

Dean just sat on the couch trying (quite unsuccessfully I might add) to tune them out because he had been a witness to many conversations ( more like tantrums) like these for the past two years. It seems as if ever since the day Sam had began to hit puberty the doorway to "The secrets to annoy the crap out of your Father" had opened just for him.

The truth was that Sam knew what they did saved a lot of lives and that the sole reason for his father's hunting passion was far more than revenge for Mary's killer. Sure it had been what triggered his hunting lifestyle but the reason John wanted to spend every living breathing second on the road was because he wished to save people from the life he had been forced to adopt after Mary. God knows how much he wished he could have saved his boys from this lifestyle but he wasn't as young as he used to be and needed backup.

Dean seemed to understand the hunting lifestyle and hell he even enjoyed it but truth was Sam wasn't wired the same way his family was. He may have been selfish but he wished for a normal life.

"Dad I have a report due Thursday and its just two months till the end of the school year. Can't you take care of this demon yourself or can't Bobby's other contacts handle it?", Sam very nearly whined.

"I said no Samuel. People are dying. This bastard's already wiped out four families. The parents and their only daughter found slaughtered in their beds. Do you want more families to die like this?". John apparent rage and irritation was clear as he put and end to the discussion. "Now go pack your belongings. I've already rolled you into the high school and we leave in the morning."

John's glare silenced Sam's retort and he all but slumped where he stood. With a mumbled "yes sir" he trudged up the stairs to their cheap rented house and the slam of a door could be clearly heard.

Dean wordlessly left the lounge and went up after his brother. He hesitated outside the door, thought about knocking, but heck it was his room too. He walked in to see Sam furiously packing his meager belongings into the duffels. Deans mind immediately thought that his brother would try to run away again as he had tried a few years ago.

Seeing his brothers alarmed expression Sam calmly said, "Relax Dean . Just packing."

"Look man, what dad said before, you know he didn't …" he was effectively cut off by the look Sam gave him. Surprisingly it wasn't a glare. His expression was nothing short of apologetic.

"I know. I'm sorry. I know what we do is important dean. I want to save people too. I just also want to stay in one place for more than a month ya'know? Maybe have a chance at normal for a while. I don't mean to shout at dad I just….wanna have a taste of the good life."

"Sammy….."

"It's Sam"

"Okay Samantha. No need to get your panties in a twist." Dean was always trying to lighten the mood which was much appreciated by Sam.

"Jerk"

"Bitch"

Unbeknownst to the boys John was right outside the door listening to the conversation. His heart swelled with pride at both his sons even if Sammy was a pain in the ass sometimes. It was good to know Sam knew what they did and that at the end of the day they helped people.

And just like that things were okay. For now.
