There was a line that came into my head after hearing a song and stayed to play for a while.

This is dedicated to two very special people who share a very special love.

The quiet of the night was soothing after all the noise and chaos of the past few days. King Phillip was dead, murdered by one of his own men. The grieving and mourning were still going on. Alexander was now the new King.

The days had been filled with emotions for Alexander. He grieved for his father, having witnessed his death, holding him while he took his last breath. He was shaken with his mother and her possible involvement in her husband murder. She had assured him that she was not part of the attack, but Alexander had his doubts and with good reason.

He had listened to the rumor circulating that he wasn't ready yet, he would not make a great King, that he was too young to ascend to the throne. But he knew he was ready to take over the responsibilities of the position. It was his turn now and he had trained to this moment all of his life.

Beside him through the crazy, tumultuous days was his anchor, his friend, the one he trusted his life and soul with. He silent support was always just an arms length away if needed. Never questioning, or doubting, he would give advice if asked.

Alexander and Hephaestion had found a balcony away from the rest of the world and sat looking out over the city. They let the peace and quiet soak into their bodies, feeling no need to talk.

Hephaestion looked towards Alexander and watched his face as all of the emotions played out on his face. After a while, he spoke softly asking his friend what he was thinking about.

Alexander looked over at Hephaestion watching the moonlight fall across his features. He asked himself if he would ever tire of looking at his friend, smiling when he answered himself with a silent no.

"I was thinking of all of the changes that have happened in our lives in the past year. We no longer are in school, we have been exiled and we have frozen our behinds off." He smiled as he added the last of this statement to Hephaestion, "and now I am a King."

"Everyday brings new directions and new decisions to be made and accomplished. It is a time for change for all of us and I am excited to begin." Alexander said with a gleam in his eyes.

"Is there anything you fear in this new life you are about to start?" Hephaestion asked.

Alexander looked towards Hephaestion again and then back out to the city. He let the question tumble around in his head for a while before answering.

"Aye, there is," said Alexander, "but I need to ask you something first."

Hephaestion nodded and waited for him to speak again.

"Will you come with me, stay by my side, support me and be my conscience and reasoning?" he asked, adding "Don't answer right away, this is a very serious question."

Hephaestion did not hesitate and nodded his head with a smile.

"Do you know what I am asking of you?" Alexander questioned.

"I am asking you to share me with the world. Where as, I also what to still share you with no one. What I am asking of you is not fair or just, for I know you will get the short end of all of this. It will be no longer just us" Alexander spoke firmly.

Hephaestion lower his head for a moment before looking towards the stars. He started speaking before looking back towards Alexander.

"You are the story of my life. It began when you came into my life and it will end the day you leave." Hephaestion ended with a look of complete love.

Alexander gathered him in his arms and held him tightly, ready to begin the next chapter of their lives together.

"You still haven't told me what you fear?" Hephaestion said, pulling back from the embrace.

"My fear was that you would have said no." Alexander said as he kissed his lifelong love.
