Chapter One: First Quarter

--

I can see her eyes even from afar – they're flickering amidst the dark night… I wanted to be near them…those lonely eyes.

But they're nothing but a memory now. I could no longer see the different hues and tints of those eyes… I could no longer wipe the tears lingering…

I've always watched her from afar. I know that she knows that I'm staring at her – and I know it's rude but…

--

She's so quiet – so prim and proper. Almost everyone in this place is envious of her – She's so perfect they say – but it seems like she has a lot of skeletons in her closet – so many that maybe because of them, she already forgot to smile—

"Um… Uh… Sakura-san…"

"Hmm?"

"Um.. C-Could you teach me how to solve this uh… problem – Um… it's very hard and—"

"Sure."

That smile. She always gives that to everyone – Those fake smiles… Never quite reaching the eyes…

--

"Class. Be quiet! It's already your last period and—"

--

She's gazes through the window – she always do. She never listens to class and yet she still gets good grades—she's very intelligent. Oh. And she's looking at that tree again, what's with that tree that she—"

"Natsume."

I looked up. It's Ruka. I wonder what he's up to. Maybe—

"Let's go."

"Hn."

I looked at my watch – 5:30. I didn't notice the time and the teacher leaving the room. I guess I was thinking too much.

Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap.

I could hear Ruka's feet as he taps it on the ground. Is this traffic light broken? Why is it taking a long time to turn red for the vehicles? Oh, Damn.

"Natsume."

That long auburn hair, lavender scent—that's her!—She's—

"Natsume. It's already red."

"Oh."

It's raining. Why is it that she's walking without an umbrella? That girl. Why is she—

"Natsume."

"What."

"What are you looking at by the intersection?"

"Nothing—Just a stray cat. That's all."

"Oh. Okay."

That Ruka. He knows, and yet he's still asking me. Tch. That bastard.

"Hey. I'll be turning left already. See you tomorrow."

"Hn."

I entered my apartment. It has always been the same – so empty, just consisting of a table, a television, and a bed. It has always been like that – I wanted it to be. I wonder if I should allow my sister to live her so she could decorate this for a change?

"--Prices has been going up. Today's oil price—A 19-year-old man has been killed—A plane crashed in—"

Click.

"Tch."

--

Even if I change the channel it's always the same—just same old news. The news has always been like that—are there no other things to talk about? It's just always about price hike, killings, and more killings—

Ding.

--

"Just a second."

--

And who could this be? At this time of the night? It's already—

--

"Good evening, Hyuuga-san."

"Why are you—"

"We are partners for the English project, I came here to talk about it."

"Oh. That. Wait, How did you –"

"Oh, everybody knows your name, Hyuuga Natsume-san."

"Well, Come on in."

"Thank you."

--

It's her—the auburn hair—hazel eyes—lavender scent—it's her. I looked outside—and suddenly, the stars just became brighter, and the moon gives off its greatest luminescence—even though it's first quarter.

--

"Wait. Let me get some coffee--"
