Disclaimer: The Originals does not and never will belong to me.
Author's Note: I came across a list online of one hundred ways to say "I love you" and I thought they made decent story prompts... hence this little ficlet. I don't know that I'll do all 100, but... here's the first at any rate. If I continue them I imagine they will in large part center around Klaus and Elijah but I wouldn't be surprised if the other Mikaelsons (and maybe even Marcel) made appearances.
Way to say "I love you" number one: "Pull over. Let me drive for awhile."
Fic the First
The carriage careened wildly down the wooded trail. "We must put as much distance between ourselves and Father as possible!" Elijah yelled over the rushing wind.
"You won't find any arguments here!" Klaus yelled back as his older brother urged the horses to go faster.
They had scarcely been in Albania a week and already Mikael had found them, burning his way through the village and emerging from the flames as though stepping straight out of one of Klaus's own nightmares.
The Original shuddered, forcing the thoughts from his head and focusing again on Elijah.
"Brother. You're bleeding," he said as his eyes found the red staining Elijah's shirt.
"Just a scratch," Elijah said, not taking his eyes from the winding path he was guiding the horses through. "It wasn't the white oak but a few splinters remain. A minor annoyance."
"Pull over. Let me drive for awhile," Klaus murmured, in his mind's eye again seeing Mikael ram the stake into Elijah and for a moment he had thought... but no. It hadn't been the white oak.
Klaus had never felt such overwhelming relief and overwhelming fear at the same time before.
"We can't afford to stop," Elijah said now, urging the horses onward.
"Father," Klaus breathed, rigid with fear, and suddenly Elijah was in front of him, between him and their father and Mikael's stake -
"Then we won't stop," Klaus agreed, bodily nudging Elijah from the driver's seat and taking the reins from him. Thank you.
"Go. Dig the splinters out, brother," he said and out of the corner of his eye he just managed to catch Elijah's grin.
A/N: Thoughts? Opinions?
Oh, and just in case anyone is curious, I'm unsure when in their lives this little piece takes place. Fairly early, I think. And as far as where the rest of their siblings are... maybe that's where they're headed... and once they are with them they'll proceed with the fleeing? Yeah... yeah, we'll go with that.
Assuming I continue the next one on the list is, "It reminded me of you."
