Rain
By Silver Sailor Ganymede
She had always loved the rain; when it was raining no one could see her cry. She could walk through the ruins of Crystal Tokyo and no one would see her; there was no one around when it rained, not even youma. On the rare occasion she did meet someone else foolish enough to walk around outside in the rainstorms, she would simply put an emotionless façade on. After all, if you didn't look like you were crying, as far as they could tell you were perfectly fine. How she loved the rain.
Yes, how she loved the rain, yet how she hated it at the same time. It made her feel so weak that she felt she would collapse, and it had nothing to do with Dark Magic. Dark Magic was all around Crystal Tokyo; why, it would have been strange if it hadn't been. No, it was something far deeper within her than that, something else, something hidden from all others. It was almost as though her power came from fire itself…
The young girl shook those thoughts out of her head. How ridiculous; human life wasn't drawn from the elements. The lifeforce of senshi was rumoured to have been from the elements, but the senshi were nothing more than an old legend, weren't they? Yes, just a legend, she told herself though she knew in her heart that this wasn't true. The senshi had existed in reality at one point or other, though how she knew this for certain she didn't say. Then again, she didn't know anything for certain, apart from her name: Solarisah Rui. Solarisah, of the Sun: she knew for certain that's what it meant, and it explained, at least partially, why the birthmark on her forehead was shaped like the Sun itself, why her eyes were the colour of fire, and why her faded white hair was streaked with strands of the same fire-colour.
"Don't be stupid," she muttered to herself. "Just because you know nothing about youself doesn't mean you're descended from the legendary senshi or anything like that."
"I wouldn't be so sure of that," a voice replied, cauing Rui to spin round, startled. A woman was leaning against the side of a ruined building, smiling at Rui as though she knew her, though Rui had never seen her before in her life. The strange thing was that the stranger's face looked eerily familiar.
"So, she wasn't lying; you're back," the woman muttered, staring straight at Rui, her intense golden eyes staring straight into Rui's blood-coloured ones.
"Who wasn't lying? What do you mean, 'you're back'?"
"You still don't remember?" the stranger asked, her eyes widening. "I'm Solarisah Amaterasu, and I know all about you, Solarish Rui."
Amaterasu? Wasn't that the name of the goddess of the sun from ancient Japanese myth? Her dark red hair and gold eyes bore all the markings of fire as well, but…
Rui shook her head, not knowing what was happening or who this 'Amaterasu' really was.
"Don't be afraid, I'm not a youma; quite the opposite in fact," she smiled. "But the time isn't right yet, I was just coming to see whether Rhea was right; and she is, you're back. I'll see you someday soon; don't worry, Rui-chan, I'll be back."
With that she seemed to disappear, and Rui took her chance to flee. But Amaterasu was still there, still watching, and even in the rain she could see that the girl was crying.
