Broken

Sokka was emotionless as he descended the stairs, not even sparing a glance to the guards as he passed. He kept his mind clear, not wanting to distract himself from the task at hand. It was a dark task but one he knew he had to do.

The cell he found her in was located far from the rest, in a dark corner of the underground prison. The first thing he noticed was the lack of guards. Sokka allowed a smirk to cross his face, as he thought of the guards who wouldn't dare stay in this area for long. Even chained to the wall, the fire princess was still dangerous.

Sokka fearlessly walked up to the bars and stared down at her. She didn't even look up, her matted hair hanging down to cover her face. He looked her over, taking in her dirty appearance. He sighed as he ran his hand through his hair, his emotionless expression giving way to uncertainty.

The small sound was enough to draw the prisoner's attention. She glanced up to discover it's source and Sokka found himself looking into a pair of lifeless golden orbs. She didn't say a word, didn't question his presence, didn't even attempt to fry him.

Sokka's head dropped in shame as he turned to walk away. He travelled back down the corridor slowly, still hopeful that she would call out to him, bang on the wall, do anything to get his attention. He reached the bottom of the stairs without interruption. Once the top step was under his feet, he screamed in frustration and punched the nearest wall. Sokka fell to his knees, ignoring the blood now trickling down the gravel. He was too late.
