Watching Her
He was always keeping an eye out for her. He was always going out of his way to make sure she was okay. He was always watching her. Always.
-"Sly, you know Carmelita can take care of herself. An audacious woman like that doesn't need you to watch her."
He knew, no matter how many times they told him. Of course he knew she was strong. Of course he knew she wouldn't like it that he was watching her. Of course he knew, but that wasn't stopping him.
-"Come on, man! If she ever catches you you're done for! We are done for. The whole gang is going down with you!"
He cared not for himself, but the gang… The only solution was to not get caught. No way was Sly Cooper going to get caught. He had been running his whole life, and would continue to do so no matter what. He wasn't going down. No one was.
-"Sly, isn't what you're doing considered stalking?"
Never had he thought of it that way. No, this was not stalking. This was care. This was love. Stalking was a fixation. Stalking was done by crazy people. Sly wasn't crazy, paranoid and skeptical maybe, but not crazy.
-"You're obsessed, addicted. There's nothing more to it. In love? Maybe. But not many people would see it that way."
He was not obsessed. He was not addicted. Carmelita was not a drug, but he could quit her anytime. He just didn't want to 'quit' her. She was the only woman he had ever fallen for. The only woman he had ever yearned for this way. Carmelita was not a drug. Sly did not have an obsession.
-"Cooper? What are you doing? Hey! Come back! Sly!"
The first night she had caught him, he decided he would never follow her again. She was the cop. She was supposed to be following him. He wouldn't look out for her this way anymore. He wouldn't.
-"Where's Sly? We need him for this mission!"
He had sworn, but he couldn't help himself. He had to make sure she was okay. Sly Cooper would never be able to forgive himself if anything ever happened to Carmelita Fox.
