Muffet's True Grit

Chapter 1: Spider gone missing

By Dr. John Smith

Desert farm life. That's what Muffet did for years, her parents were cattle farmers and thus, they owned a homestead out in the desert. Muffet was an only child. Because she was an only child, she was very close to her parents, especially her dad. Her dad taught her to be ruff and tough, as well as be a little girl. One day though, her father went out to town to sell some cattle when he never returned. Muffet and her mother Tuffet were worried about him, and wanted to go look for him. Tuffet said no. "Muffet, I know you're a big girl, but let the sheriff and marshals do their jobs. I don't want to hear you went missing too."

Muffet looked away in defeat, "Yes ma." She still wanted to go look for her dad, but her mother would never allow her too. Later that day, Sheriff Cooper knocked on the door, giving Tuffet an update on the search.

"We haven't found him yet, but from what the saloon owner says, he never entered town." Sheriff Cooper explained.

Tuffet looked shocked, "Oh my! He was kidnapped in the middle of the desert?"

The human sheriff shook his head, removing his hat. "Afraid so ma'am. Doc Brown found your cattle just wondering with no trace of Ruffet." He put his hat back on, "I wouldn't tell little Muffet this if I were you. Little thing is probably all shook up as it is."

Tuffet nodded in agreement, "I won't breathe a word to her sheriff. You have a nice day now." Tuffet told the sheriff. Sheriff Cooper bid his farewells and continued his search. Little did either know that Muffet heard everything, she wasn't gonna just sit down and let her father probably be killed by a group of outlaws. She had to do something, and she had to do it fast.

She waited for nightfall, when her mother fell asleep. She waited in her room for the usual good night from her mother and waited to be told everything was gonna be okay. Tuffet slowly entered the young spiders room, "Muffet, honey. You ok?" She asked her daughter.

Muffet nodded, "Yes mother. Is daddy gonna be gone forever?"

Tuffet shook her head, "Of course not dear, he'll be back sooner than you'll know. The sheriff and marshal are doing their jobs and are searching everywhere they can. Night dear."

"Night mommy." And with that, Tuffet went to bed. It was time for Muffet to act. She left a note on her bedside table explaining why she's gone, and took off, her dad wasn't gonna find himself.

Out in the desert, Muffet knew what town she should visit first to get some answers, "Nancy. That place has always has outlaws and Cowboys. Maybe I'll find some clues there." With her destination in mind, Muffet set off to the town of Nancy to get some answers on finding her father.

Here is chapter 1! I'm super excited for this one, because this is my first western. The western genre is my favorite and has always been a favorite since I was a kid watching John Wayne and spaghetti westerns with my dad. I toyed with the idea of a western for a while, even watching a bunch on Netflix. Originally I planned for a Steven Universe western, but I changed it to this. The story is gonna be an homage to True Grit, the classic John Wayne and modern classic Jeff Bridges movie. The Rooster Cogburn of this story will of course be Jonah Hex. Please leave reviews as those fill me with determination.
