A ginger shape slid through the brambles and ferns. Silently, it padded towards a darker shape. "Crowfeather…" the ginger cat whispered.

The darker shape lifted his head, a look of excitement crossing his face. "Squirrelflight! I was hoping that you would make it." Crowfeather meowed.

Squirrelflight nodded and sat down beside him. Crowfeather rested his head on her shoulder and purred.

The night sky was speckled with thousands of stars. The leaves on the trees rustled in a slight breeze that cooled the air. They could see the lake from there, shining, shimmering, splendid. (Yes, that was a reference! XD) Squirrelflight could feel the dark gray tom's heartbeat and guessed that he, too, could feel a heartbeat.

The two forbidden lovers had been meeting there for several moons. Every time either one would leave the camp adrenaline would push them to go quickly. Their hearts were a never ending hole filled with feelings and hope. They planned on running away, just as Crowfeather and his former lover had tried to do seasons ago. But Squirrelflight felt that her feelings were stronger than Leafpool's had been. She felt that her sister just hadn't really loved him; but Squirrelflight knew that she really did. Her love was as real as ThunderClan and WindClan… and as real as their future together.

Squirrelflight's heart thumped inside her chest at the thought of leaving her clan. She drew her thoughts back to herself, not wanting to think of what lay ahead of her. Instead, she filled her head with thoughts of the handsome near-black tom… Crowfeather.

Suddenly, Crowfeather got to his paws. "Squirrelflight, we must leave tonight," he meowed. "Nightcloud is getting really suspicious."

Squirrelflight stood, too. "Yes, so is Bramblestar. I never should have agreed to be his mate… he's going to be heart-broken!"

Crowfeather suddenly rounded on his mate, hackles raised. "What do you care about him!?" He growled.

The ginger she-cat stood her ground, pools forming in her eyes. "He's my leader and my former mate for StarClan's sake!" Squirrelflight retorted.

Crowfeather slowly calmed down. The fur along his spine flattening and his bushy tail smoothing. He took a deep breath before replying, "I'm sorry it's just… I don't want to lose you!"

Squirrelflight, too, took a breath. "Crowfeather, you're never going to lose me! Now, let's go before dawn comes."

The two lovers turned and padded away in the direction of the place where Leafpool and Crowfeather had formerly taken shelter.
