"You are a pathetic, evil... ferret!" Hermione fairly screamed, yanking at her frizzy hair as she paced back and forth across the short space. Somehow, they had crossed each other's paths on the way to a Slytherin and Gryffindor Quidditch match, and after a few heated words and a spell gone wrong, had been trapped together inside of a broom closet.

"Is that the best you can come up with?" Draco asked dryly, a sneer curling his lips. "I thought you were supposed to be the intelligent one of the Golden club. Not that it's hard to beat Potty and Weasel."

Hermione pulled her hand back, fully ready to slap him for the second time in as many years, but he caught her wrist.

"Not this time, Granger. I've learned." Draco said with a smirk, taking a step closer to her. Hermione felt a bit of fear for the first time. She was trapped in a small space with a boy who absolutely loathed her. A boy who she had punched in the face (and apparently broken his nose, if later reports from Dean Thomas, who had been in the Hospital Wing at the time with antlers was to be believed) only two years prior.

But he didn't take out his wand, and he didn't even hit her. His grasp on her wrist was firm, but not tight enough to hurt. He simply moved closer, his head bent down so their eyes were level, sorrel against grey. Hermione gulped, feeling nerves take over her stomach in a rampage of something much stronger and bigger than butterflies—perhaps bats.

"Malfoy?" She asked tentatively, breaking the silence.

"Merlin, sometimes you can be really thick, Granger." Malfoy said. Hermione was about to protest when her lips were caught in his, and she was pushed lightly against the broom closet door. She was stiff, uncertain, but eventually relaxed, all sensible thought leaving her. Which was when the door slammed open and they went toppling onto the floor, a mix of Quidditch leathers, robes, and bushy hair.

They stared at each for a moment before laughing uproariously, to the intense shock of the many students around them. Pansy Parkinson fainted and Crabbe and Goyle carried her to the Hospital Wing, but neither of the two laughing students noticed.
