Once she left an antique store in Shinjiku, Rika and her Digimon partner, Renamon, looked over the item they had bought for 100 yen. The girl, whose full hearted t-shirt represents of acknowledging friendship, takes a look at the item closely while walking together back to her house. It's a Monkey King puppet.
"Maybe I can do some ventriloquist act with this puppet."
"Ventriloquist? What's that?" the Digimon asked in curiosity as she doesn't know what this word means to her.
"It means it's the act of the person to change his or her voice to make it look like it comes from somewhere else just like this puppet I'm holding," was the human girl's reply.
"I like to see you try it."
"Okay, as you wish, Renamon," Rika said in a different voice that it goes to the puppet. It's eyebrows also wiggled.
"Ah!" Renamon screamed in fear. "Rika, that puppet is scaring me!"
"Well, that's what the store owner. Anyway, there's an inscription," the human girl started to read it. "To free me of glitches and put you in stitches, this merry ape begs: Pull my leg."
"So, are you going to pull it's leg?" her Digimon partner asked in curiosity.
"Let's see."
Rika pulls the right leg of the Monkey Puppet. As she does it, its eyes started to glow red and laughs maniacally. Pink smoke suddenly appears it covers Rika. Once the smoke is out, the puppet has become a living being with his staff on his hand.
"I'm free! The Monkey King is in the house!" was the first words of the mystical being.
"Okay, you, what have done to-?" Renamon said before she is interrupted with a shocking sight. It's her human partner, now being turned into a puppet.
"Your human partner?" Monkey King finishes her sentence as he holds Rika. "Why, Rika, thank you for being my victim," he tosses her to Renamon who catches her.
"R-Rika?" the fox-like Digimon asked.
"Here's a tip: if she loses her shine, wax her," the monkey prankster approaches the Digimon closely and gives her a can of wax. Then he wiggles his eyebrow and went a little far from her. "By the way, Renamon, here's what happened: Rika pulled my leg so this is what happened. Looks like she is quite a dummy."
Monkey King started to burst in laughter from making such joke.
"Rika is not a dummy! Change her back!" Renamon said in anger.
"Well, I can, but too bad, I'm never going back to being a puppet again!"
"Why you! Diamond Storm!" Renamon unleashes a barrage of shards to the monkey prankster, but he blocks it with his staff. Next, he uses his staff as it shots a pink beam above her. Suddenly, an anvil appears on top of her as it falls on her, hitting her in the head. This gives her a temporary daze.
The villainous prankster started to run away from her. Recovering from her daze, she pursues him through town as the townspeople in Japan are surprise in a sight of seeing a Digimon pursuing some supernatural being. The chase ended when it takes them to a cliff. Renamon thinks she has him cornered.
"Um, I wouldn't stand there if I were you," Monkey King remarked as a large boulder is about to fall from top of her. She dodges it, but it cuts down the path for the two of them. The one where she is standing falls off, resulting in her and Rika to fall off and land into the river. The monkey goes to the start of the cliff, looking at the two being wet. "If you want to turn her back to normal, you figure it out on your own."
Monkey King leave the cliff and laughs maniacally as he drops from one car to the other, much to the townspeople's surprise. They look closely to see Renamon teleporting out of the river with Rika. This is going to be a tough case for her to deal with since he is quite a trickster, not to mention a maniac.
