The song she is singing I just made up as I was folding clothes the other day, and it kind of goes to the tune of 'Colors of the Wind' from Disney's Pocahontas. Also, in case you're wondering, all this excessive publishing today is to make up for falling of the ffn bandwagon for like two months. :)

"I am waiting, alone here in the silence, waiting for you to call my name," Aredhel sings quietly to herself, kneading the bread with long, pale fingers. "I am waiting, just waiting, in the silence, waiting for the silence to break."

Eol pauses in his work, laying the sharpening stone softly down on the workbench, watching her contemplatively.

Her dress is simple yet beautiful, made of pure white cloth which Eol has had great trouble in obtaining. Yet he has finally got it, and the silver thread to stitch it with as well.

"I am waiting, alone here in the darkness, waiting for the light of the day," she continues to sing, working the soft dough this way and that, eyes straying to the window with the vines and flowers crawling in through it longingly. Her belly is getting rounder by the day, the baby will not be long in coming, and he can feel that this brave wife is scared.

She never expected to have a baby, rather to run and hunt and climb trees, like her brothers and cousins.

"I am sleeping, alone here in the darkness, waiting for the voices of the Spring."

Eol had asked her once about that song, the one it seemed she sung all the time.

"I am waiting, alone here in the silence, waiting for my time to come,"

She used to sing another one too, about a bird in a cage, but Eol had ordered her to stop when it became too painful.

"I am waiting, alone here in the silence, waiting for the birdsong of the dawn."

So now she only sings this one.

"I am waiting, alone here in the silence, waiting for the night to find the sun,"

When he had asked were it was from, she just smiled sheepishly and shook her head. He now has a suspicion that she is making it up, for the song is never sung exactly the same way twice.

"I am waiting, just waiting, in the silence, waiting to not be all alone." she hums the last note for a long while, leaving the bread for a moment to rearrange the pitiful little spiky purple flowers in the vase beside her, before returning to the bread, humming all the while.

"Aredhel, I love you." he speaks suddenly, causing her to jump slightly before turning to him, smiling, and Eol's heart warms in knowing that he has made her happy for a moment, even if he can do nothing more.

"I think I shall be able to grow to love you someday too, Eol." she promises quietly, carefully taking up a jar of water for the plants outside, launching back into the song as she glides out the door.

"I am waiting, alone here in the silence, waiting for the flowers to bloom, I'll be waiting here alone in the silence, just waiting for you to come home."
