Losing Sunlight

You are my sunshine . . .

Leonardo ran to the edge of the peer and glanced about, eyes searching desperately for any glimpse of his brother.

. . . My only sunshine. . .

Ignoring the battle still waging behind him, he focused his full attention on detecting a hint of green or flash of orange in the roiling waters below.

"Mikey!"

. . . You make me happy . . .

The only sign was a splintered piece of orange-wrapped wood that bobbed to the surface directly in front of him.

Taking as deep a breath as he could, Leonardo dived into the churning swell, swiftly sinking below the surface. He cast his eyes around in search of his brother, but even a lifetime of training to be able to see in the dark was useless in the pitch blackness of the dark harbor.

. . . When skies are gray. . .

Nevertheless, he stretched out his arms, fingers swiping at the darkness, desperate to feel the familiar texture of his brother's skin in the dank depths. The steel on his back carried him down while the current swirled him about in indecipherable patterns.

. . . You never know, dear . . .

He reached the bottom of the bay, blindly groping at the rocks and detritus and debris. Scrabbling through the dregs and run-off of the dirty city, his hand met with a limb of achingly familiar, smooth reptilian flesh.

Pulling the limb closer, Leonardo wrapped his arms around his younger brother's torso and rapidly began swimming to the surface, kicking off from the dirt and trash coated floor to expedite the process.

. . . How much I love you. . .

Breaking the surface of the gloom-glutted liquid trying to drag him and his precious cargo back down to the murky underdark below, Leonardo gasped for air before directing his focus on keeping his limp brother's head above the salty swell surrounding them.

"Mikey! Mike!" Treading water, he freed one hand to gently tap his brother's cheek to rouse him. "Come on bro, open your eyes. Mikey!"

. . . Please don't take . . .

Abandoning his attempts at waking his brother until they made it to dry land, Leonardo set off at a hurried pace towards the shoreline, his one armed grip tightening around his unresponsive brother's chest. Don't take him from me, Leonardo pleaded internally, hoping his prayer would be heard. Please, don't take him.

"Come on, Mikey." He continued his litany as he swam with all he was worth towards solid ground and their salvation. "Stay with me, Mike. Stay with me."

. . . my sunshine . . .

"Don't leave me, Mikey."

. . . away. . .

Disclaimer: I don't own. Seriously. I don't. Trust me.

Author's Note: My baby sister went to camp yesterday, the very first time she has ever been gone this long, and I miss her. My feelings seem to be affecting my writing. I'm angsting out and Ninja Turtles is my vessel, since I'm kind of Leo and she is my Mikey (even though she isn't fond of that relation xD). *Sigh* I miss her terribly. She is my TMNT brainstorm buddy. I still have to suffer through another two and a half days without her. I do hope she is having fun. Leo and Mikey sure aren't. Take care all! Love ya! God bless!
