It had been approximately 10 minutes since Rick had hid Sophia under a log by the creek. She was beginning to become uneasy; holding on to her doll tighter than usual.
~plop~
Sophia's heart began to race. She didn't dare peek out from under the log to see what had caused the noise. A few seconds go by and Sophia noticed something in the corner of her eye. Ripples. There were ripples in the water and whatever it was that was making these ripples seemed to be headed in Sophia's direction. Sophia had to make a choice. Act fast and make a run for it, or stay and suffer the same fate as those on the highway. No. She didn't want to be weak; she wanted to put up a fight.
She dashed out from under the log only to come out and be greeted by a gruesome walker. This caught her off guard almost making her fall back but caught her balance at the last second. She was out of the water and had started heading back to the road until she spotted out two walkers. She had hoped to go around them but the rustling of the leaves and cracking of the branches beneath her feet had caught their attention. They began trudging in her direction but for some reason Sophia couldn't move. Sweat began to drip down her forehead, her entire body was shaking, and she was struggling to catch her breath; she was having a panic attack. The walkers were creeping up on her and there was nothing she could do. Sophia had fainted and it was all over.
Or was it? Sophia woke up in the middle of the night. She tried to stand up on her feet but she didn't have the strength to do so. The feeling of being in the woods at this time of night and under these circumstances overwhelmed Sophia. She began to crawl on the ground hoping she would make her way back to the road and back to her worrying mother.
Thirty minutes had gone by and Sophia felt a sharp pain on her right shoulder. She touched her shoulder and realized that her shirt was soaked. Not only that but her fingers were sticky from touching her shirt. She licked her fingers and immediately recognized the taste. Blood. But who's? Sophia felt out her shoulder only this time did she notice the crater on her shoulder. Tears filled her eyes and she clung on to her doll for the very last time.
But she didn't want to die in the woods. No. Not here. With the remaining strength she had, she stood up and walked with no destination in mind leaving her doll behind. Walkers were all around but they didn't seem to mind her. She was near collapsing when she stumbled upon a field with a barn in the middle. She walked over to the barn, lifeless; almost as if she had already turned. The stars were bright, there was a slight breeze; it couldn't have been a more perfect night. Sophia sat with her back against the barn and just gazed up at the sky. The sun was beginning to rise and Sophia grew weary. She had fought her best, she closed her eyes, and drifted into a sleep she would never wake from.
