Notes: Written for the 12 Days of Christmas Style challenge. Trio Era. Song lyrics are from Aviators: "Monster."
Warning: dark themes.
If I can't have you then
I'll throw the world away
Only you are to blame
For turning me into the monster I am today
He watches her, and he doesn't notice his fingers have clenched into fists until Seamus elbows him and tells him he looks like a prat. Forcing a smile, Dean un-curls his fingers and stares studiously down at the wood grain of the table until he hears her voice moving away.
"Taking it hard still?" Seamus asks him sympathetically, and he nods. You don't know the half of it, he thinks, but can't say. Ginevra Weasley has taken over every waking moment he has. He still can't believe she broke up with him. Not only that-but immediately ran into the arms of Harry bloody Potter.
Wanted a hero, did you? he thinks, his mental turmoil vicious. Doesn't surprise me one bit. How long have your knickers been wet for Potter, Ginny? Since first year? Before that? I thought you'd moved past him, but you didn't at all, did you?
He wants to do something. Wants to show her. Show her what she's missing out on, show her that she can't do this to him. But he doesn't know what. The words stick in his throat when he tries to speak with her, and in the end, she always laughs and turns away, linking arms with Potter and kissing his cheek as if she wants to rub salt in the wounds. Knowing her vindictive streak, she probably does.
It's Potter's fault, Dean thinks as he shoves himself away from the table, throwing his book-bag too energetically over his shoulder. That's bloody obvious. He crooked his finger and she came running.
Well, his smile grows, turning slowly unpleasant. Perhaps it's time for Potter to find out what happens when he uses his bloody fame to get what other people deserve.
