This is my first story here. In fact, I haven't written in about 5 years...here goes nothing!

Prologue

Olivia's eyes widened in alarm. Her group was nowhere to be seen.

How could I lose a bunch of singers and dancers decked out in traditional costume?

As she wandered the Higurashi Shrine, her steps quickened. There was no was she was actually lost in Japan, right? She shouldn't even be here. If only her brother, Lucas, hadn't begged her to come. He knew she wanted to get out of Montana and see the world beyond the reservation. If only she hadn't wanted to try out her 2 years of studying the Japanese language. She could speak even less than she could understand! Yet, here she was, performing in Japan with her brothers' Native American song and dance troupe.

"Lucas!? Jeff!? Where did you go?" A few stares, but no answer. They must be gone. Maybe I missed the bus?

Olivia stopped abruptly, almost causing a family to collide with her. Clutching her medicine pouch, she closed her eyes took a few deep breaths. Ah, yes. Grandpa helped me make the pouch not too long before he passed away. He'd been to Japan, too. Grandpa, will you lead me?

Opening her eyes, she noticed a smaller building she hadn't searched. Really, Grandpa? It looks like an outhouse. Shrugging, she made her way over to the building and gingerly opened the door. Dark. Nothing. As she turned to leave, something stopped her. Voices? Olivia turned back and entered. Yes, down by that well! As soon as her feet left the bottom of the stairs, the door above her slammed shut, leaving her in pitch black.

"Lucas! Where are you?" she cringed at the unsteadiness in her voice. Feeling her way around, she found the edge of the well. The voices were gone.

"Dammit! Now what?" Olivia kicked the side of the well in frustration. She would not cry! She was 17, too old to cry over getting lost. After kicking the well a few more times, she sat on the edge and held her foot. Lost AND injured. Smart move, Liv.

Without warning, the well lit up, light streaming and reaching to the ceiling. Stunned and blinded, Olivia lost her grip and began to fall.

"Help! HELP!" She wasn't sure if she was falling into the well, or being pulled in. She floated, but whether up or down she couldn't be sure. She swirled around, surrounded in the strange light. Grandpa, what have you done? With a large thud, she hit the ground, and the light vanished.
