Truly Beautiful
'God, she is beautiful.' He hadn't ever thought that about any other woman, not even Stacy. Sure, he thought women were sexy, hot, but Cameron was the only one he had ever thought to be truly beautiful. She was pure, and innocent, and caring, she was the kindest person he had ever met, and it bugged the hell out of him, but he knew that all the reasons she annoyed him were the reasons that made her truly beautiful.
She was the most gorgeous when she wasn't even trying to be; times when she was running tests in the lab, when she was angry at him, or when she was upset to the point of her beautiful blue-green eyes brimming with tears. He hated it and loved it at the same time, the way he could make him feel was different from anybody else, and she made it look effortless.
He knew that he could never love her the way that she deserved even if she didn't want him to change. She was too young, too pretty, too… hopeful. He'd put on his nonchalant face when she was hurt, tried his hardest to make it look like he didn't want to run to her and comfort her, put his arms around her and whisper into her ear, 'Everything is going to be ok.'
Sure, her aesthetics were pleasing, but she was one of those rare people that managed to increase how attractive they were by what was inside of them. He didn't doubt that she had been told she was 'pretty' more times than she could count, but he was almost sure that she hadn't been told nearly enough times that she was special for more reasons that her appearance.
The little voice in his head that he thought he had killed 5 years ago came out when he was around her. Even if they were just talking in a professional manner, that annoying voice would scream, 'What are you thinking? She loves you! Go run to her!'
As he sat as his desk playing with his gray and red tennis ball she walked into his office.
"House?" She asked with a certain amount of apprehension, as she always did when confronted with the task of talking to him.
"Have I ever told you that I think you're beautiful?" He asked, surprising himself.
"Um, yea, it's why you hired me." She said and she put her free hand on her hip.
"No, it's not."
"You said it was yourself, why is this relevant?"
"I hired you because you defied a law of nature."
"Ok, sure. Tessa's test results are back."
"That can wait."
"No, it can't. She needs a liver transplant or she's going to die by the weekend."
"That's too bad for her, but it's in the transplant committee's hands now."
"No, it isn't! You have to go meet with them!"
"Fine. I just wanted you to know."
"Know what?"
"That I think you're beautiful."
"I know House, nothing else about me matters to you." She said before she walked out, leaving one very confused man in her wake.
Hope you liked it! It's my second House/Cameron one-shot, but the first to be posted on this site! Let me know if you're interested in the other one!
