Just Fiction.

Raito enjoys some light reading.

Disclaimer: No I didn't, no I don't.

Spellings: I read the scans online before buying the first Viz volume. So "Light" is Raito in my mind, and thus in my fics. Other name spellings vary according to what I feel like.

Raito didn't read a lot of fiction books, and when he did it was always for a school assignment. But he had heard something about this book, a mystery by a British women. The summery he had read sparked his interest, and he had barrowed it from the library.

Once he got home, he locked himself in his room as per usual, but instead of doing homework or eliminating criminals, he had started reading. He hadn't put it down since.

Ryuk was watching his human. Usually Raito would be entertaining to the Shinigami, but today he was just reading. It had already been about two hours, and Kira showed no signs of coming out any time soon.

"Raito?"

The boy looked up, irritated at being interrupted. "Yes?"

"Are you acting unsuspicious? Are there cameras in the room again? Is that why you've been reading all day?"

"If there were cameras I wouldn't be talking to you."

"Oh. Yeah. But is reading that," Ryuk gestured at the paperback, "part of a plan?"

"No."

Ryuk scratched his head. "Are you reading it for a class?"

"No."

Ryuk quit scratching his head and looked closer at the book in confusion. Raito doing something non-Kira or school related was a rarity.

Ryuk read the cover. And Then There Were None. It didn't mean anything to him, but maybe it did to Raito. Humans were funny creatures.

"Then wha-"

"Ryuk, if you be quiet and let me finish this in peace, I'll let you read it."

"I don't read books" the death god said. "Humans are more fun to watch, then to read about." Usually, he added mentally.

Raito gave a queer sort of smile, and went back to his book.

"I wanted to kill…. Yes, I wanted to kill….

But—incongruous as it may seem to some—I was restrained and hampered by my innate sense of justice. The innocent must not suffer."

L turned away from his computer and looked around for his mostly ignored pair of sneakers. After much searching, he spotted them hidden under a desk.

Awkwardly shoving his feet into them, L contemplated what he had just learned. He had just hacked into the college's library account and found that along with the normal research books Raito was prone to barrow he had also taken out a fiction book. A mystery, of all things.

L shuffled past Matsuda on his way out.

"Ryuzaki-san, are you going out?"

"Yes, Matsuda-san."

"On the trail of Kira?" he asked enthusiastically.

"I'm going to the library."

"Oh, what for?" Matsuda asked, losing interest.

"…Research."

And Then There Were None is by Agatha Christie. The italicized quote is taken from it.

This is just a bit of silliness on my part…I don't think this fic is on par with the rest of my stuff...but Raito is a lot like the murderer in the book. Just on a much grander scale. I just finished reading Elephants Can Remember, and Cards on the Table which renewed my love for Agatha Christie. And Then There Were None is my favorite of hers however, and you all should read it if you have not already. I hope I didn't spoil it for you, lol.

As always, please review. :)
