This is just a little scene I wrote when I was bored to satisfy myself.
Joshua and Mr. H father-son relationship makes me happy. Little Joshua's living with Mr. H after his parents die and has had a nightmare, so he seeks comfort from the man who's taking care of him and helping him understand why he can see the UG even though he's alive. Just my thoughts on Joshua's past and what's played out as a brief explanation.
Little kids are so curious.
"Can…can I call you 'Dad'?"
He looks at the little gray haired boy sitting on the other side of the bed and grins.
"Of course."
The light goes out.
"Hey…Dad?"
"Yes?"
"Why'd you start drawing?"
"Don't know if there's a particular reason. I just feel something when I draw."
Momentary silence.
"Hey, Dad?"
"Yes?"
"What's your favorite thing to draw?"
"That's a tough one. I'd say anything that makes people think, feel, or believe."
"Ohhhh."
More silence.
"Hey, Dad?"
"…Yes?"
"How long have you been the Producer?"
"Quite a few decades."
His eyelids droop as the silence lasts. He's just about to fall asleep when the child's voice rings out again.
"Hey, Dad?"
A sigh and small, amused smile.
"Yes?"
"How long has the Composer been Composer?"
"Twelve years. Now go to sleep."
"Okay."
A few minutes of silence. He's about to drift off again.
"…Dad?"
An exasperated sigh.
"Yes, Joshua?"
"I love you…"
He rolls over to face the eight year old. The boy stares back with wide eyes. With a smile he puts one arm around the boy.
"I love you too, Joshy-boy. Now, go to sleep!"
There's a small giggle from the darkness and then (finally) lasting silence.
