Chapter 1

"Who do you keep texting?"

Kuroko looked up pausing in mid text to look up at Kagami who was glaring down at him. It was quiet for a moment, before Kuroko looked backed down at his phone. "My sister." The phantom answered.

Kagami was a little surprised that Kuroko had a sister. "You have a sister?" he asked rather dumbly, before he instantly grimaced. That sounded smart.

"Yes." Kuroko answered, putting his phone down before picking up his chopsticks to eat his lunch that Kagami oh so nicely made for him. Kuroko thinks that Kagami thinks he doesn't eat.

"Is she younger or older?" the red head asked. Now that Kuroko revealed something personal, he was hellva curious.

"She's older." He answered after swallowing his food.

It was like pulling teeth. But then he surprised the red head.

"I live with her." He said quietly.

Before Kagami could ask more, Kuroko phone sounded, indicating he had a text. He picked it up and unlocked it. "She takes so long with texting. She's pretty slow with technology." There was a fond smile of exasperation. The kind of expression that came from love.

Kagami felt something lifted from his shoulders. It felt something like relief. He wasn't going to examine that emotion too closely. As the phantom read the text, he frowned a little, concern flashing across his face before the impassive expression came back.

"Something wrong?" Kagami asked.

"Not really." He answered quickly texting back before putting the phone down and finishing his lunch. "I'm not coming back to practice today."

The red head scrutinize him. "Why?" Since he knew Kuroko he never once missed practice.

"I have to pick up my niece." He answered.

"Your sister has a daughter?! How old is she?" Kagami knew it wasn't uncommon, but he thought his sister was a year or two older.

Amusement was shining in Kuroko's eyes as he stared at his partner. "Yes, Kagami-kun. She's 28. My niece is 5."

The red head immediately did the math. '13 years older than him. Most've been a surprise for his parents come 9 months later.' He imagine a baby Kuroko and chuckled.

Kuroko instantly arched a brow but didn't comment.

The bell rung, signaling that lunch has ended.

"Thank you for the lunch Kagami-kun."

The red head shrugged as he scratched his nose. "Don't worry about it." He murmured.

They packed up their lunch and left the roof. The rest of the day past in a blur until it was time for practice. Everyone was already dressed and in the gym, expect for one.

"Kuroko! Why aren't you dressed?" Riko asked after she noticed him beside her. (More like he scared her half to death.)

"I wanted to tell you Coach that I can't make it to practice today. I have to pick up my niece." He answered.

"Okay… wait you have a niece?!"

He nodded.

She stared at him for a moment, before nodding. "Alright. But you better make it up tomorrow."

"Yes." He left the gym with Riko watching him. Kagami-kun." She called.

He came over from where he was playing against the freshmen trio. "Yeah coach?"

"Could you follow Kuroko-kun?"

He looked like he was about to protest but the glare she gave him cut him off. "Fine." He said grudgingly, following after the phantom.
