Chapter One: The Beginning Note

No one expected it. He'd seemed resigned to his fate no matter how much some of his friends tried to bring his spirits up. Yuki'd even tried to offer some contests so that he might have a chance at besting his cousin. But he just disappeared after the school day, and appeared late in the night. All of his cousins thought that he was taking in the things he couldn't experience again. Shigure wondered if he was meeting someone at the sunsets, saying passionate goodbyes, since he seemed to have also given up on Tohru. He and Ayame even played it out, the few times their often absent cousin was nearby, hoping to get a rise. But he'd just grumble a little and try to nap. Hatori then scolded them, saying the poor boy had enough to deal with. They had no idea. A week before graduation, Kyou disappeared.

They soon found out that he'd been working several part-time jobs, secretly gathering money for his plans. He'd somehow gotten a passport without his guardian's knowledge. He'd fled the country, taking multiple planes to get to his destination to throw them off. While Akito threw one of the worst tantrums he'd ever had, most of the other cousins secretly cheered on the cat. All that was left by their missing cousin was a simple note, scrawled onto a scrap piece of paper left on his desk. The message shakily emblazoned, the source of much conspiracy amongst the house, were two simple words: 'I'm done.'

Of course, for each person that had heard of the note, there was an explanation to it. Everyone gave a different meaning to the words. To some it implied 'I'm done with you' or 'I'm done trying'. Of course, there were some that thought it was more personal. Shigure took it to mean 'I'm done trying to put up with you,' which hurt the canine, who'd come to think of the cat as a little brother. 'I'm done competing with you' was Yuki's take on it. And to a certain God on Earth, it was taken as 'I'm done playing by your rules,' which fueled him on to push for an international cat hunt.

And so the note Kyou had meant to end it all, began so much more.

A/N: Back after so long. A better writer, better reader, better person all over has been developed by the wear of the years. Reviews are nice, compliments even more so, and flames will be accepted, glanced at, and probably sneered at. Hey, at least I'm honest.
