Leo woke up suddenly, stolen from the dream. The horrible recurring dream, living his mother's death, over and over, each night. He knew Gaea was trying to tire him out, but tonight, he would have to let her. There was no way he would go back to sleep, not after seeing his mother's death from her point of view.
He swung his legs out of bed and made his way slowly down the hallway. Leo paused in front of Hazel's door. It had been left open a crack. He started to think: Maybe if he... no. Hazel was with Frank. End of story.
Leo kept walking, up to the deck. He paced, thinking of ways he could have saved Percy and Annabeth without putting the others in danger. He couldn't concentrate, his mind kept slipping back to his mother, that night at the workshop... Leo couldn't keep the tears away now. He was vaguely aware of soft footsteps behind him and heard Hazel's soft voice say, "Leo?"
